Jersey Holidays

The island of adventure

This pocket-sized Channel Island is living proof that sometimes the best things come in small packages. Jersey packs more charm and character into its 46 square miles than you’d think was possible. You’ll find it just 14 miles from the Bay of Saint-Malo in France, but the island feels quintessentially British… but with better weather – it’s a win-win situation, really.

While you’re on Jersey’s stunning shores, there’s so much to see. Start in the capital, St Helier, where you can visit the 300-year-old Elizabeth Castle and tick off some fantastic museums. Head into the countryside and you can spend time watching the animals at Jersey Zoo, which continues naturalist, zookeeper and author Gerald Durrell’s pioneering conservation work. Or why not explore the underground tunnel complex that was built during World War II, when the Channel Islands were occupied by Germany.

If you’re visiting for a taste of sun, sea and sand, meanwhile, you’re in luck – Jersey is one of the sunniest spots in the British Isles. The island’s picturesque country lanes open up to even more beautiful clifftop views. Cycle along the postcard-worthy pathways, build a sandcastle, or tuck into net-fresh seafood at a waterfront restaurant. Did we mention that the sea is never more than a 10-minute drive away in Jersey? Be sure to keep an eye out for the pretty biscuit-coloured Jersey cows grazing in the fields on route.

Your Jersey questions, answered

As the southernmost of the Channel Islands, Jersey’s climate is relatively mild and it's one of the sunniest spots in the British Isles. However, it's still in the English Channel, so be sure to check the weather forecast.
Though French was spoken here historically, English is the only language you’ll hear – unless your ear happens to catch one of the last remaining speakers of Jèrriais, the local Norman dialect.
Jersey bobs along at a slow pace, so anyone who appreciates fine food (particularly seafood) and fans of the great outdoors will love it. There’s plenty for kids, too.
