Take a look below for a quick rundown on some of Europe's most famous golf destinations:
Golf holidays in Spain are perhaps the most obvious choice. Think golden beaches, luxury golf resorts, and top-class courses all topped off with days and days of glorious sunshine. Costa del Sol – AKA the Costa del Golf – is known as Europe’s premier golfing destination, with 70 world-class courses in high-profile resorts such as Marbella and Estepona.
Costa Blanca has an alluring blend of world-class golf courses, too, such as those at Melia Villaitana, and the aptly named Golf du Sur – a specialist resort with its own academy, driving range, and championship golf course.
Long considered a rising star in the golfing world, Turkey’s recently been getting its dues thanks to a stunning landscape and abundance of world-class courses. Belek is the country’s golfing hub – a picture-perfect coastal town boasting luxurious resorts dedicated to a golfing aficionado’s every whim.
Notable Turkish golf courses include:
- The Seno Dune Course – as the name suggests, it’s famous for its huge sand traps and tricky water hazards
- The Montgomerie Maxx Royal – designed by legendary pro, Colin Montgomerie
- The National Golf Course – where the Turkish Open is held, attracting elite professionals every year to its greens and fairways.
For those in the know, Portugal is on a par with Spain when it comes to unforgettable golf breaks. And with nearly 300 days of sunshine a year, dramatic cliffside terrain, and some of the most prestigious courses in the whole of Europe, it’s easy to see why.
Vilamoura is the place to go for many an elite golfer. Home to such acclaimed courses as Dom Pedro and Vale do Lobo, it’s also a vibrant hub of activity, with some of the best bars, restaurants, and boutique shops in the whole of the Algarve. Don’t sleep on Albufeira, however – as you’d be missing out on perfectly maintained fairways overlooking beautiful sandy beaches, and buzzing nightlife that’s ready and waiting when you’re ready to hang up your clubs.
