Whether you’re looking to party until the early hours, happy just to chill on the beach or eager to explore the odd mountain village or Byzantine monastery, Cyprus won’t leave you disappointed. Action packed resorts like Limassol and Ayia Napa keep the young revellers going round the clock, while the slightly quieter towns of Paphos and Larnaca combine a healthy dose of culture with a whole host of beach-based activities. What they all have in common is plenty of top-notch accommodation options from five star luxury to basic self-catering apartments that match any budget.
Get off the beaten track and you’ll discover traditional Cypriot villages, mountain tavernas and another world far removed from the tourist resorts, full of old men whiling away afternoons playing backgammon in street cafes. And let’s not forget those Crusader castles, ancient Greek and Roman ruins or those age old Neolithic settlements. When it comes to history there really is nowhere quite like Cyprus.
But what sets this island apart from the rest of the pack has to be its startling beauty. Where else can boast of forested mountain vistas full of wild flowers in the spring and ski slopes during winter? Or beaches made of the finest sands and the clearest turquoise waters you’ve ever seen? Whether you’re into your secluded coves, deserted bays or family-friendly stretches of sand, you are sure to find the beach of your choice in Cyprus. Mind you, you could just forget the beach altogether and hit the waterparks, the golf courses or all those museums and archaeological sites. When we say that Cyprus is the holiday destination with a little bit of everything, we’re not joking!
The weather in Cyprus is perfect all year long and ranges from warm to very warm. In the summer months tourists can expect average temperatures from around 25 degrees up to the mid-30s. The best time to come to avoid the crowds and peak prices is around spring where you can expect temperatures a few degrees cooler and a countryside full of blossoming wild flowers. Of course don’t rule out autumn either, and with average temperatures rarely dipping below 17 degrees in winter, anytime is a good time to visit this paradise island.
