Our top tips for securing a cheap holiday

Looking for tips and tricks on how to find a cheap holiday? We’ve got you covered. It’s not just about picking the right destination – it’s about exactly how and when you book your trip…

  1. Target the “shoulder season”: the cheapest times to visit Europe are often spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Many holiday destinations start heating up in March and stay warm well into October, so you can skip the peak summer peak prices.

  2. Look out for “Free Child Places”: if you’re travelling as a family, keep an eye out for free child places, we've got millions available each year on beach holiday packages. Securing a free place for one of your little ones will make your holiday more affordable.

  3. Book your holiday as a package: our holidays are a bundle with flights and together in a single booking, which can get you exclusive package discounts that you can't get when you sort each element separately. Plus, a package holiday with us is ATOL protected, AND our beach breaks also include a 23kg bag and transfers as part of the package.

  4. Winter getaways: there are cheap deals to be found when you opt for a winter break. Whether you’re after a spot of winter sun or a cooler time to explore a city, our year-round destinations have got you covered.

Your cheap holiday questions, answered

The cheapest time to book is generally at least 6 to 12 weeks before you travel. Prices tend to climb as the departure date nears and seats or rooms fill up, so booking too late can cost you. Tuesdays and Wednesdays often show slightly lower fares than weekends, but it all depends on how in demand your holiday of choice is. Be sure to keep an eye out for deals during sale periods, too, where you’ll have even more chance of finding a bargain break.
The cheapest months to go on holiday are typically January, February, and November, when demand drops. If you can travel outside of the school holidays and avoid the peak summer months (July and August) and the Christmas period, you'll be more likely to find better deals. Travelling during the so-called shoulder seasons – spring and autumn – is also a great idea, as you can expect good weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices.
Some of the best value destinations include Egypt, Turkey, Bulgaria, Tunisia, as well as lesser-known parts of Greece and Spain. Here, your money can stretch further on food, drink, and accommodation. The cheapest choice depends on when you go – a destination in its shoulder season will often beat a pricier spot in peak time.
Package holidays are often cheaper than booking your flights and accommodation separately. They also come with the added bonus of financial protection (ATOL cover), which means you’ll have peace of mind if something goes wrong.
When you're booking a holiday close to your departure date, there are a few tactics that can help you land a genuine bargain:
Be flexible on dates – this means you can take advantage of the cheapest hotel rates and flight times.
Check for free child places – if you're looking for a cheap family holiday, free child places can save you hundreds - and easyJet holidays has them available throughout the year!
Widen your search – if you’re flexible on location, consider visiting destinations that aren’t in their peak period. We make this easy with our year-round flights to over 100 destinations.
Use the ‘compare prices’ functionality – Our website allows you to compare prices so you can select the cheapest dates for the trip you’re interested in.
Keep an eye on last-minute deals pages – these are regularly updated and feature the best cheap last-minute holiday deals departing in the next few months.
Book flights, hotel, and luggage as one package rather than separately – package deals often unlock discounts that don't apply when you book each part individually, and you get ATOL protection too.

All Inclusive holidays can be cheaper overall, especially for families travelling with little ones with an endless appetite for ice cream. They are also great if you want to go all out on food and drinks, as they include meals, snacks, and drinks in one easy package, so you can wave goodbye to extra costs.

All Inclusive holidays can also significantly reduce your total holiday cost if you’re staying in a destination where it’s expensive to eat out. On the other hand, if you generally prefer to explore the local bars and restaurants and dine out often, you might save money by booking a room-only stay, a self-catering hotel, or a bed-and-breakfast option.

Although prices are higher during peak periods, it’s still possible to find a cheap getaway during the school holidays. There are a few ways to save during school holidays: book early, be flexible on your dates and destination, and travel at the very start or end of the break rather than the peak middle weeks.

Choosing a self-catering hotel is also a good way to save money, as it means you’re totally in control of your budget for food and drinks – this often works well for families. Comparing package deals well in advance can help you lock in a lower rate before demand pushes prices up, too. Many people think that last-minute deals are best, but if you need to travel on popular dates, you may find the most attractive deals and cheapest rooms are available earlier.
