Often thought of as an extension of Amsterdam itself, Amstelveen is the city’s smaller, greener neighbour. Think less canals, more green spaces, just as many bikes. A stay at the Best Western Plus here will have you away from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam city, but with the great tram and metro links you’ll still be able to easily make your way in and out.
The main draw in Amstelveen is the Amsterdamse Bos – a massive woodland park where you can stroll, sail, and even cuddle a goat at the on-site farm. It’s also got plenty of cafés and restaurants scattered amongst the trees. When you feel like heading into Amsterdam for a spot of sightseeing, the nearest tram stop is about five minutes’ walk from the hotel, and will have you at Amsterdam Zuid station in about 20 minutes. From here you can hop on the metro and head anywhere you like – Amsterdam is your oyster.
Eat in the city or head back to the suburbs – either way you’ll be spoiled for choice. From Michelin-starred restaurants to cosy local places, and covering all manner of cuisines, there’s plenty here to suit even the most discerning (or fussiest) of palates. At the hotel you’ll find the bars serves up drinks and snacks in casual, laidback surroundings.
