Holiday better

Going on holiday is an incredible experience, it makes the world feel a little smaller, and people feel a little closer. Travel also plays an important role for communities worldwide, providing opportunities for local growth and development.

But we recognise that the places we call destinations, others call home, and no holiday should have a negative impact on the people or places that make holidays so special.

We’re committed to supporting local communities and preserving the environments they depend on. Read on to learn more about our journey towards making more sustainable holidays mainstream.

Our Mission

We want to make a positive impact on the environment and local communities that make our holidays so special. We’re always passionate about providing incredible value for money to our customers, which is why we have the aspiration to make it possible for more sustainable holidays to be the mainstream.

To help us think about what sustainable tourism means, we turned to our friends at United Nations Tourism:

“Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.”

So, at easyJet holidays we think about the economic, social and environmental impacts that our holidays have on our destinations – the good, and the not so good, and we also tie what we’re doing back to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Create Better Holiday Choices
We want to make more sustainable travel affordable and available to everyone - that’s our ambition. So, we’re working hard to support our hotel partners in achieving a GSTC recognised or equivalent certification and communicating this, and the work our destination partners are carrying out, so that it’s clear to our customers where they can make better holiday choices at no extra cost.
Keep our holidays special
We want to keep our holidays special by maximising the benefits and minimising the negative impacts they have. For us, this means supporting locally owned businesses and communities with initiatives, which help ensure our holidays are not only a brilliant experience for our customers, but also benefit those that make our holidays so special.
Transform travel for everyone
We have an ambition to build sustainability into the very fabric of our business, which is why we’ve introduced company-wide strategic targets, and have representation from all teams on our internal Sustainability Action Group. We’re confident in the power of our brand to help drive industry wide change, so we’re ensuring our priorities work towards solutions to the biggest issues and challenge the status quo to ask better of ourselves and our partners in our supply chain.

Our Annual Impact

An important part of promoting repsonsible tourism involves being transparent on our own journey. So, we've published our impact report, which you can read here.

Impact Report

Our Approach

Our approach is to fund, support, and partner with organisations and individuals who are making significant progress towards making sustainable holidays mainstream. We connect the scale, industry experience, and economic weight of the easyJet group to the problem solving abilities, expertise, and research prowess of others. It’s a winning combination, and has helped us make great progress so far.
Education
We don't have all the answers, but we're keen to learn from others and share what we know.
Collaboration
We find the right people to help drive our strategy forward.
Rapid Implementation
If a solution has potential, we prioritise pace over perfection to quickly test and share the results.

UN Tourism

UN Tourism is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism. As the leading international organisation in this field, the UN Tourism promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development, and environmental sustainability, and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide. So, we’re delighted to be working together to introduce a tourism specific ESG framework.

ICRT Global Partnership

Promoting the principles of responsible tourism around the world is what the International Centre for Responsible Tourism are all about. Not only does ICRT Global train and educate across digital platforms, but it also plays a major hand in running events and award shows.

As a founding partner of ICRT Global, easyJet holidays is proud to support its mission to educate others on responsible tourism and practices.

University of Oxford partnership

The University of Oxford is world-famous for excellence, and home to some of the most talented people from across the globe. Their work shapes the lives of millions, solving real-world problems through a huge network of partnerships and collaborations. That's why we partnered with the University of Oxford to establish the Oxford SDG (sustainable development goals) Impact Lab. We've worked together to identify challenges and opportunities for sustainable tourism, which are linked to the United Nations’ SDGs.

Planeterra Partnership

Using tourism to help uplift communities, Planeterra is a leading nonprofit organisation for good reason. They’re experts in partnering with local enterprises, as well as providing training and support to help connect communities with travellers through trusted companies like easyJet holidays. This ensures the benefits of tourism are felt across the length and breadth of each destination.

We’re very excited to be teaming up with such a well-established organisation in our chosen destination of Crete!

Conservation Collective Partnership

Conservation Collective is an environmental charity on a mission to protect and restore the wild places we know and love. Since 2020, they’ve launched, funded, and grown 22 foundations in places where they can have the biggest impact: at a grass roots level.

Their work now spans from Devon to Sri Lanka and across the Mediterranean, dispersing millions to the most effective, locally led groups in the process. Our collaboration with Conservation Collective will support biodiversity conservation and sustainability within popular Mediterranean holiday hotspots.

Cyclades Preservation Fund Partnership

Part of the Conservation Collective’s network, the CPF empowers local initiatives to protect and restore the exceptional beauty of the Cycladic Islands. easyJet holidays proudly support their campaign in Santorini, the Cyclades Posidonia Alert, which helps to protect Posidonia Oceanica – a vital species of seagrass that absorbs carbon up to 15 times more efficiently than terrestrial forests.

The initiative will include hotel staff training, educational resources for visitors, and experiences such as ‘Snorkelling with Posidonia’ as part of a collaboration with a local dive centre.

Menorca Preservation Partnership

Menorca Preservation has an important aim: to preserve the natural heritage of Menorca and its status as a UNESCO biosphere reserve. A foundation within the Conservation Collection network, they work closely with local organisations and individuals to help promote awareness of environmental issues.

Alongside Menorca Preservation, easyJet holidays is working with 10 of its partner hotels to achieve plastic-free certification through eliminating single-use plastics and promoting sustainable alternatives where possible. Every certified hotel will get reusable beach item stations, too, reducing waste on Menorca’s beaches and helping to improve local ecosystems.

GSTC membership

The GSTC is a global membership organisation, formed to manage global standards for sustainable travel and tourism, the GSTC Criteria, and to foster increased knowledge and understanding of sustainable tourism practices through the adoption of universal sustainable tourism principles. So we’re proud to be a GSTC member and to work together to help enable our hotel partners to achieve GSTC-recognised certification.

ABTA

ABTA offers advice and guidance to the travel industry on high service standards, health and safety, and promoting responsible tourism.
