"We recently returned from a 4 night stay at this lovely hotel. We had upgraded to a balcony room for 3 nights, as the 1st night was not available, but upon check in the lovely lady said that due to ferry cancellations, she maybe able to get us in a balcony room for the full 4 nights and not have to move. However as it was early, at around 8am, this wouldn't be until later, so we went into town. She called at around midday to confirm it had been done and our room was ready. Great service. The room was great, all you can want, as I say we had a balcony room in the newer part of the hotel so can't comment on other rooms. The restaurant is lovely and we went for the chantebriand ( excuse the spelling if wrong) meal, which come with a free bottle of red wine on Thursday with choice of two sides each. Absolutely fantastic. Its a type of steak joint, sliced and cooked to order. The bar staff were very friendly, and is it a worry, that when we walked in they got our choice of wine out ready ? As I say very friendly and the head barman was great as well. sorry didn't get their names, but they know who they are. There is a curtesy bus into town, but we didn't use it. Its around a 20 minute walk and if you ask at reception they give you directions but basically you turn left out of the hotel entrance then go right then left then right, through the park, left right at the premier inn, then left etc. Tip, if you dont like the steep walk out of reception, go down the first bit, then there is a side path on the left which is more gentle, follow that, turn right at the end and it brings you out to the road, where you would be if you turned left out of the main entrance. The sauna and pool are great and must be tried, free to guests, so bring your cosy. Over we definitely recommend this hotel and will be back."

"Stayed here for my mothers bday , staff friendly, evening meal very nice , breakfast very overcrowded people waiting around to be seated , bedrooms the same as a travel lodge definitely a let down and not worth the money"

"We stayed here for 6 nights in a classic double. This is an old worldly hotel with a grand staircase in the foyer. Unfortunately the area around the hotel is built up so that the windows is our room looked out on to balconies of the block of apartments next door (not close close but close enough to want to close the curtains) As this is an old hotel there is no air conditioning, however we found on the warm days the windows had been opened and curtains closed along with a tall floor fan to keep the room cool (which it did). There was tea, coffee making facilities in the room but no fridge. I did ask at reception and they sent a fridge up to our room free of charge. The walls are thin and found the bed was against the wall of the next room where the plug socket was and we could plainly hear each time they were putting plugs in and out of the socket (unfortunately late at night) Staff on reception were very polite and helpful. The pool does get busy as it is open to local members of the spa. But there are plenty of loungers. Made use of the spa and had a massage which was outstanding. Breakfast is a simple affair with a mixture of small boxes of cereal, bread and fruit. There is a small selection of pastries and cooked selection of bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, toms and mushrooms. They were taking orders for some cooked breakfasts as well. The restaurant does get busy in the evenings so pre book. The menu is limited and if you are vegetarian there is limited choice. We did eat twice in the hotel and found the food to be excellent along with the staff. Overall this is a lovely hotel with charm and excellent staff. Just doesn't have modern convenances (sound proof rooms, air con)."
