If you want some retail therapy, Eixample’s Passeig de Gràcia is the hub of designer and luxury shopping in Barcelona. You’ll find the likes of Luis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Channel, and other world-famous fashion brands, as well as all the more affordable brands, too.
Admire the buildings
Leading Modernists such as Antoni Gaudí, Lluis Domenech i Montaner, and Josep Puig i Cadafalch all have buildings in the Eixample. Don’t miss Gaudí’s La Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, and La Pedrera.
Visit the park
Fancy stretching out in a large green space? Head to Joan Miró park where you can walk, run, skate, and kick a ball around. Get snaps of the huge Miró sculpture ‘Dona i Ocell’ (‘Woman and Bird’) while you’re having a tapas-style picnic.

The Eixample (meaning ‘Expansion’) is a result of urban planning by Idelfons Cerdà. The whole area is laid out in a grid that Cerdà employed in the mid-1800s to make the most out of natural light and sanitation, and bring efficiency to the residents.

You’ll be spoilt for choice, here. The dining scene in Eixample is rich and varied, with many of the city’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants being located here, as well as Thai, Mexican or Indian restaurants.

Yes! Thanks to its wide streets and grid pattern, getting a bus and walking around in Eixample is easy. You can also use the efficient metro system – nearly all the metro lines cross through part of this neighbourhood at some point.
