"Ideally located within walking distance of Edinburgh Castle, Princess St and the Royal Mile and on the BigBus Hop On - Hop Off Red route stop #4, this is a good location for a visit to Edinburgh.
We are celebrating our anniversary and both our birthdays (we are Aries) and the hotel helped us celebrate the occasions! Thank you all very much!
The two young ladies at reception were delightful and friendly. They provided us with some information regarding the hotel and location.
Breakfast in the morning was delicious and bountiful!
We did have dinner and drinks too and the entire Monboddo staff were amazing and hospitable. Great menu options too.
Our room attendant, Emese is simply incredible! She truly takes pride in herself, her work, and understands the hospitably industry. It starts with feeling comfortable and in a clean room which she assured each day.
Challenges: We are quite accustomed to European travel and hotels as Hilton Diamond members, and we stay over 100 nights per year in hotels around the world. however, the rooms are bit a bit small. Very ideal for a business traveler but for a couple on a month-long global journey, space is limited. This includes the bathroom. A lack of shelving and hanging rods/hooks was immediately apparent.
Noise: Room location, our room was 433. This room was very noisy each night and early morning due to hearing many carts of some sort being moved down below between the buildings. The hotel has 4 floors with another building (apartments) direct across from the hotel room windows. Sound travels up between the two. If you are there on a Saturday night loud club music, deep bass sounds, vibrate within the walls of the hotel and hallways until after midnight. Not ideal if you have to wake up Sunday morning at 0300 hr for an international 16-hour flight. Unfortunately, there is nothing the hotel can do about this. A room on the front side of the hotel may be better
TV Disappointment: The hotel room TVs are Samsung. Standard in the Hilton world. However, the hotel has blocked access to select under "Source" HDMI access. Unfortunately, while we were on holiday, an unexpected meeting came up and we had to hook up a computer to the TV and plug in an HDMI cable to the HDMI port. However, while the ports are there, it was not available under Source to change the input to HDMI source. At other Hilton's where is also the case, this can be easily corrected by HSK or maintenance as it is an option a property chooses for the TV and not the TV itself. We asked the front desk in the morning and again in the afternoon for assistance and each time were told they will have help provided to us. No help arrived. This is also not "for security" as one cannot hack into the hotel system through a TV's HDMI port, it is simply that the hotel does not want the guest to have full use of their TV."
