Yotel London City

"We booked a Premium Queen room at YOTEL City and, prior to our arrival, specifically requested a quiet room away from lifts and communal areas. Unfortunately, our request appeared to have been completely overlooked, as we were allocated a room directly opposite the lift. The room itself was relatively clean, although we were disappointed by the lack of some fairly basic amenities and attention to detail. There was no plug socket on one side of the bed, the glass toilet door did not close properly and clearly required adjustment, and there were no hooks to hang towels conveniently when showering. Perhaps most surprisingly, there were no tea or coffee-making facilities in the room, something we would consider fairly standard in a hotel of this category. Whilst we appreciate YOTEL’s contemporary, minimalist concept, there is a difference between clever, space-saving design and overlooking basic guest comforts. Overall, the experience was underwhelming. The hotel has potential, but greater attention to detail and consideration of guests’ requests would make a considerable difference"

"Congratulations, YOTEL. You’ve somehow managed to design a beautiful, modern hotel while completely overlooking one tiny, insignificant detail: People occasionally like to go to the toilet in private. And the room really is lovely. Modern, stylish and blissfully free of those revolting hotel carpets and manky decorative pillows that have probably witnessed more human activity than anyone cares to imagine. Someone clearly put some thought into hygiene. Excellent! Then you discover the bathroom. Some architectural genius decided that frosted glass cubicles would be the perfect solution for both the shower and the toilet. Because apparently, nothing says luxury quite like watching the silhouette of your travelling companion going to the loo. I’m genuinely fascinated by the design meeting where someone pitched this idea. Did nobody raise a hand and ask, “Hang on, what if our guests occasionally want to use the toilet without an audience?” The attention to detail is extraordinary. They’ve spared us the questionable hygiene of decorative cushions while ensuring we can enjoy the full visual experience of each other’s bodily functions. Five stars for aesthetics. Zero stars for dignity. A genuinely gorgeous hotel, provided you’re travelling with someone you’re happy to share absolutely everything with. And I mean everything. YOTEL: Where privacy goes to die, beautifully."

"Quiet area of London, short Uber trip from Liverpool Street Station, about a half-hour walk to the City of London. Ideal for all-day explorers who spend time in their hotel to sleep and get their breakfasts. Lovely staff, clean rooms."
