"My wife and I stayed at L'oscar London for just one night, and while an unexpected incident significantly disrupted our stay, the hotel's subsequent response demonstrated the kind of hospitality and professionalism you'd hope for from a luxury property.
Our initial check-in experience was wonderful. Vlad warmly welcomed us and pleasantly surprised us with a room upgrade. Shifaz was also excellent, kindly offering us welcome coffees in their beautiful check-in lobby. Our upgraded room was ready around 4 p.m., and when we returned to the hotel at approximately 6 p.m., Shifaz personally showed us to the room. It was absolutely beautiful (and spacious by London standards), elegantly furnished, with fantastic lighting and charming decorative touches. We were thoroughly impressed.
Unfortunately, things took a dramatic turn at approximately 2:30 a.m., when I was awakened by the sound of what seemed like pouring rain. To our disbelief, water was pouring from the ceiling sprinkler fixture directly into our room, soaking the table, floor, and several of our belongings, including the hotel's welcome chocolates.
I immediately contacted the front desk, and to their credit, staff responded very quickly. They arrived with towels, began cleaning up the water, and placed a bucket beneath the leak. They also promptly arranged another room for us.
However, at 2:30 or 3 a.m., with our belongings already unpacked and scattered throughout the room, moving everything in the middle of the night was hardly practical. We ended up sleeping in the replacement room while leaving much of our luggage and belongings in the original room, then spent a significant portion of the following morning retrieving, packing, and reorganizing everything.
What made this particularly frustrating was that we were staying for only one night. With such a short stay, getting a great night's sleep and making the most of our limited time at the property were especially important to us. Instead, a significant portion of our brief visit was consumed by dealing with the flooding, changing rooms in the middle of the night, and sorting out our belongings the following morning. We lost valuable sleep, fell behind on our morning plans, and spent far more time packing, unpacking, and moving between rooms than anyone should during a one-night luxury hotel stay.
Despite this unfortunate incident, I want to emphasize how exceptional the staff were. Mihaela and Bhumi in the restaurant provided wonderful service, and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. I'd especially like to recognize Tony, who was consistently friendly, attentive, and proactive in offering assistance with our luggage, transportation, and anything else we needed. He was truly outstanding.
Our biggest disappointment, beyond the incident itself, was how little acknowledgment it received at checkout. Given the disruption to our only night at the hotel, we had expected someone to recognize the extent of the inconvenience and take a more personal interest in our experience. Instead, we received little more than a brief apology, which left us feeling that the impact on our stay hadn't been fully appreciated.
However, I am pleased to say that the story doesn't end there.
After sharing our experience, I received a thoughtful and sincere personal response from Juliette Frise, who acknowledged both the seriousness of the disruption and the shortcomings in how it was handled at checkout. She took full responsibility on behalf of the hotel, expressed genuine regret, and went out of her way to ensure the situation was resolved to our satisfaction.
What impressed me most was the professionalism, accountability, and genuine care demonstrated in her response. She clearly understood that the issue wasn't just an unexpected maintenance problem, but the impact it had on our experience and the importance of making guests feel valued when something goes wrong. Her personal attention and willingness to make things right were sincerely appreciated.
I understand that unforeseen problems can happen at even the finest hotels. While nothing can restore a lost night's sleep or the time spent dealing with an incident like this, the way management ultimately handled the situation went a long way toward restoring our confidence in L'oscar.
Nearly every aspect of the property, from its gorgeous rooms and beautiful design to its excellent restaurant and wonderful staff, was worthy of five stars. Although the flooding incident undeniably affected our short stay, I believe it's equally important to recognize when a hotel takes responsibility and makes a genuine effort to put things right.
We genuinely loved L'oscar London and would happily return on a future visit. My sincere thanks to Juliette and the entire team for demonstrating that excellent hospitality isn't just about getting everything right the first time, but also about how you respond when things don't go according to plan."
