Your Croatian Islands questions, answered
There’s no bad time to hit an Adriatic island, so it totally depends on what you’re after. For soaring temps – hello sun holiday – July and August are a great pick, but either side you’ll get slightly cooler weather and fewer tourists. That makes April, May, September, and October great for hiking and exploring. If you’re a sucker for sea temperatures, we recommend September, when the Adriatic is at its warmest – and most inviting.
A week is a great amount of time to spend exploring the islands off the coast of Croatia. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to hit the sights and soak up the culture without eating into your oh-so-valuable sun-worshipping hours if that’s your speed. If you want to squeeze as much sightseeing in as possible, stretch to 10 days or a fortnight and you won’t regret it.
Croatian food is hearty, Mediterranean fare. There’s a big emphasis on bold flavours, local olive oil, and seafood caught off the coast. Indulge in fish stew (brudet) or sample the popular Burek, a pastry filled with meat, cheese, or fruit.
Any of them make a fantastic pick if you’ve got little ones in tow. All line up plenty of family-friendly resorts and activities, but Brac might just pip the others to the post. Shallow waters, kid-friendly beaches, and a lovely, family atmosphere make this a winner in our book.
This one is easy – it’s Hvar. From luxe beach clubs to thumping nightlife and trendy cocktail bars, Hvar is an island that knows how to let its hair down. But rest assured, that’s just one side of Hvar. The other? Quaint seaside towns and rolling hills of lavender. Truly an island that can do both.
