"We took a chance on this hotel, given that the it is brand new (and parts are still under construction), as our first proper family holiday (with 2yo). Arrival good not have felt more luxurious - valet getting, taking luggage, proving scented hand towels, and glasses of fizz.
We are now on day 2 of our stay, so whilst still early into our holiday I think I can provide a well-rounded and honest overview of the experience being offered at Iberostar Selection Montenegro.
It goes without saying that the location is absolutely stunning, with gorgeous ocean views and surrounding Montenegrin landscape. Couldn't be more picturesque if it tried. And the hotel appears to be entirely built around offering guests unspoilt views of the scenery, no matter which floor you are on - from the lobby, cafe, swimming pool, and restaurants.
Food choices are vast at every meal and I don't understand why anyone would wish to complain. There's something for every taste - hot dishes, grill station, salad bar, local produce, desserts etc. And mostly all labelled with allergens/varying dietary requirements. As someone with a GF diet, there were plenty of options for me. Only criticism I have is that dairy free options for my child were much more limited and could have been more readily available. I would say that if you're vegan, this would also mean quite a limited choice at meal times.
Facilities are beautifully designed, but poorly executed in some places (finishing on the build is bad quality - as one example, the door frames on a lot of the toilet doors is misaligned, making them very difficult or even impossible to close and lock). However, overall the design and aesthetic is modern, clean and relaxing to be in.
Our suite is beautiful and secluded (again some of the build finishes are badly done). However, I would have liked more separation from the suites next door - e.g. Fencing or more sloping walls between each one so there's slightly more privacy when enjoying a morning coffee on the veranda.
The resort is family friendly but not entirely geared around children, so it does strike a nice balance for different guests. However, you can tell that detailed considerations haven't been made when it comes to safety (as an example, when wet the floor tiles both in and outdoors get incredibly slippery when wet - this is a hazard for all, not just children. They desperately need to out floor mats either side of entry ways - the patio doors from the restaurant are almost lethal - I witnessed multiple children fall quite hard due to this - including my own).
The leisure facilities are great and I'm happy to hear they are being expanded, as I can see why people were complaining in the height of summer about capacity. However, agree with the many comments regarding the lifeguards - always distracted in their phones, I would not trust them with my nor my child's life. Some serious retraining needed here.
Staff knowledge can be a bit inconsistent (I can see why some have complained about cocktails). However, from experience so far, all staff, from housekeeping, reception, bar and restaurant, they are all friendly, approachable and want to ensure you have what you need and enjoy your stay. They are all trying their best, and that should be acknowledged. I'm sure by the time next summer season comes round they will all be fully trained and more experienced.
Granted, we stayed at a quieter time of year. So access to facilities and staff support was more readily available. Maybe I can see why there may have been some complaints in previous reviews. However, I think many who have given 1 or 2 star ratings have unrealistic expectations for a BRAND NEW resort and staff team. There are always going to be snags and learnings to improve upon during the first season. This is why prices are so much more affordable for a 5* hotel. Clearly these people have not done the maths...
In summary, we were blown away by the location, welcome and facilities in comparison to what we paid and we only hope there is a rebooking discount so we can come again next year and witness the full construction in all it's glory - we heard there's many more exciting things to come (more restaurants, pools, kids clubs etc.). Thoroughly recommend to anyone who is considering booking."
