"When looking for a hotel in Glasgow, the Apex was our first choice as we have stayed at the Apex in Dundee several times and always had a wonderful experience.
Upon check-in we had a lovely friendly welcome from the two team members at the desk. The lady checking us in was friendly, chatty and explained everything clearly. We were also absolutely delighted to be told our Superior room had been upgraded to a duplex suite. It was a lovely surprise and greatly appreciated.
The room itself was lovely. Beautiful views over the city and that separation between the sleeping area and the lounge area, particularly the curtains closing it off. It was really nice to have 2 tvs and the mini bar was a great addition, with a good selection of drinks (though personally I'd prefer a couple more soft drinks). The feature of the blind on the window was also great, especially as it could be controlled from both floors. Of course, as always, the duck was another highlight and Rennie has come to stay with all his Dundee pals 😄
I also really appreciated the 24/7 access to tea and coffee downstairs, despite there also being a kettle and coffee machine in the room.
We made a point to book breakfast because whenever we've had breakfast at the Apex Dundee it has been exceptional so we had high expectations and hopes. However, breakfast was by far the biggest disappointment. The continental breakfast selection was nice enough but not half as extensive as the Dundee Apex. There was a limited selection of fruits - just one fruit salad - only a couple of juice options, the pastries were miniature and clearly cooked from frozen. Not an issue per se, but for the cost of breakfast, I would expect a bit of a fresher selection. Again, Dundee sets the bar high. We also found the range of choice of hot breakfast options as little bit lacking.
I ordered the kippers which were very tasty if simple. My husband ordered the three egg omelette and unfortunately it was awful. He opted for ham and cheese as filling but what was served not only looked unappetising - and didn't even look like an omelette - but tasted awful (I sampled some). Unseasoned and horribly overcooked, it was rubbery and tasteless and my husband found it completely inedible. He did feedback to the server at the time who was very apologetic and immediately offered an alternative. We cannot fault the service from the team serving us and we were keen for them to know that the standard of breakfast was not in any way a reflection on them.
The location of the hotel is great, within a short distance of Sauchiehall street, meaning there's plenty of options to pop out to shops, restaurants etc
Overall our stay was a positive experience and we would be happy to return, but unfortunately the breakfast really lets the hotel down. It's also a shame there isn't a full restaurant service but there are plenty of options for eating in the nearby area.
The Apex Glasgow has a lot of positives, including the incredibly friendly and helpful team, but I feel it could take a couple of lessons from its Dundee sibling in order to really elevate it!"
