"Stayed here for one night this August with family. Overall it was a good stay and convenient in terms of location. We were able to get in and around the centre from this hotel. The service at reception and at the bar was excellent - I could not fault it. Team were very professional and friendly and our bartender made wonderful drinks!
The room itself was quite nice as we walked in. The family room had two reasonably sized beds. There were complimentary teas/coffees, biscuits and water. There is also plenty of shampoo, conditioner and hand wash, so no need to pack any. The bathroom was reasonably sized and we had the choice of a bath tub or walk in shower.
However, there are a few things missing from the room. Considering there was a spa, we had hoped for some robes and slippers in the room, as this would have been handy for us as we headed down to the basement to use the spa. In the bathroom, it would be useful to have some lotions, extra toilet rolls, shower caps and nail kits. I did look for extra toilet roll in the room and there wasn't any.
The safe was in a poor location. It was placed high up - so high in fact, that I could not physically reach to store goods (I am 5ft 2"). If I didn't have my partner there, I would have struggled to put in goods and check before I left that I didn't leave anything in there.
It would be nice to have some sound proofing. We could clearly hear people in the hallway and every time we heard a door, it sounded like ours was being opened.
There were a few cleanliness issues with the room and surrounding areas. The carpet was not cleaned properly and had marks. Our socks became dirty from the carpet. I found a finger/toe nail on one of the beds as well as someone's hair, signalling to me that this was not cleaned properly. The spa area needed maintaining for cleanliness, particularly in the sauna and pool area - there was a lot of dirt and hair so I was not comfortable walking bare foot.
The spa area was fairly decent, aside from the cleanliness issue with the flooring. The changing rooms were clean and had plenty of towels. Facilities in there were enough. The sauna was lovely to use. I was going to use the steam room, however there were small children going in and out of this - I would have hoped there would be more monitoring on this as this is a safety issue for children but also dampens other people's experiences as it isn't nice to have people opening and closing doors on the steam room when you're trying to to relax. The pool area was ok, however the chlorine levels seemed a little high. My son, as well as many other children, developed a cough. Funnily enough, as I entered the pool area, I was coughing before going in the pool! I do think this should be looked into. My son did not enjoy this and my partner complained that his eyes were burning. We only stayed for 30 mins max.
It's important to note that if you want to use the spa/swimming pool, you do have to book a time slot which is capped at one hour. If I had known this before my booking, I wouldn't have booked and gone elsewhere. We did only spend 30 mins in there, however this was due to high chlorine levels. Had my family not had any issues, we would not want capped time on this, considering we are fully paying guests. I think it was slightly misleading to allow a booking and only inform us at check in about the capped time limit.
In terms of the value for money, I'll be honest, I did expect more from this hotel. I think if there were the extra features/corrections to the room and changes surrounding spa usage and chlorine levels, this would be great value for money."
