"(LONG READ - GO TO END OF REVIEW FOR VEGAN/VEGETARIAN FOOD)
We had an amazing stay at Cleopatra Hotel, a genuine 10/10 experience.
Every single member of staff without fail was genuinely happy to help with any task no matter how big or small, always with a smile on their face. So incredibly friendly, constantly checking if there was anything they could do for us, and a few were extra keen to get drinks down us!
The accommodation was absolutely spotless throughout - not a single bug or speck of dust seen in our room - and the housekeeper, Khaled, was super friendly, always with a beaming smile and made us an elephant out of towels one day! (God only knows how!)
Fresh towels each day, for room and for beach, bottled water supply topped up daily, and some lovely shower gels/shampoos.
With 3 pools, 3 big jacuzzis and a wave pool - each with LOADS of seating and LOADS of sunshine - we were spoilt for choice throughout the week.
One pool seemingly designated as the activities/music pool, one seemingly designated for your typical chill by the pool and dip in for a light swim (the biggest), and one seemingly more set up for swimming lengths.
The music was loud when it was on, but not constant, and one of the other pools allows a bit of respite from the noise if you want it, as it’s further away and raised on a slightly higher level. So you get the best of both worlds on the party vs chill vibe.
There’s an on site gym (not that we used it - what are you insane?! You’re on holiday!), an on-site “English pub” with a pool table and big TV where we watched the World Cup, and a large bar with more pool, as well as darts and more of a cosy sofa seating vibe.
There are other pubs/bars on the separate family hotel on the other side of the road, which we were welcome to use all-inclusive.
There’s nothing to stop the “adults only” going into the family hotel, but the families are not allowed in the adults only (obviously) - perfect!
There were optional excursions and spa facilities at an extra cost, we went on the day snorkelling boat trip and did the spa program. The snorkelling in the Red Sea was stunning and was full to the brim of beautiful exotic fish. I am a very nervous swimmer but the snorkelling instructor couldn’t have been more helpful, and the wildlife was so amazing I even forgot I was scared at all!
(Shoutout to our new friend Jill if you’re reading this!)
The spa program with Turkish Harram was the best spa experience I’ve ever had, anywhere.
Shoutout to Mansy our holiday guide who explained everything clearly and, whilst obviously being a salesman, didn’t feel too pushy.
There is a shuttle bus (a glorified golf buggy) that runs every 15 minutes taking you to the beach: literally a 3 minute journey across the road and through the very separate family hotel of the same name.
There is a lovely restaurant (with no vegan options other than chips!) overlooking the beach, and plenty of sunbeds under canopy on the sand.
IMPORTANT NOTE: you seemingly cannot swim at this beach, it is a MASSIVE shallow area filled with rockpools, which for us as nature lovers was super cool. Just about deep enough to get our heads under with the snorkel (not to scare you but we saw a lionfish and an eel!). The no-swimming thing could’ve been because it was slightly choppy, but it seemed to be a standard “do not go past this line” kinda beach.
There were a healthy number of activities during the day, usually a game of darts in the big cabana or water polo in one of the pools. Usually one or two a day so not constant, but the entertainment reps were always open to ideas.
And entertainment at night was varied and genuinely of pretty high quality! Singers, dancers, karaoke (NOT high quality lol), quiz nights, light shows etc etc.
Now to the food… wow as vegans we felt so so lucky and so well looked after by the chef, Mohammed.
The options on display at the buffet were plentiful by usual standards anyway: flavoured rice, multiplied potato choices, grilled vegetables, green pea ragout, vegetable tagine etc etc
However, we made a note on our booking that we were vegan. First thing when we checked in, the receptionist advised us to talk to the chef. At lunch, we asked our lovely waiter, Mustafa, who graciously found chef Mohammed in an instant.
It took a little explaining due to the language barrier and cultural norms to make sure he 100% understood (VEGAN, not vegetarian!), but once he got it, he couldn’t have been better!
Every lunch, and every dinner, without fail, Mohammed would personally deliver to us a freshly cooked varied fully plant based dish whilst all the other punters were eating chicken and chips! Ha! Suckers!!
I’ve attached photos which will hopefully show the quality, but we’d have been very happy to be served these dishes in any restaurant, and he did not hold back on the portion sizes!!
Breakfast left a little to be desired, as most on the buffet contained butter/meat/eggs etc and Mohammed wasn’t there in the mornings. So we opted for toast with apricot/fig jam and the occasional Egyptian style baked beans with couscous which were pretty good!
(No alternative milks or butters available!)
Overall we left with immense gratitude towards all the staff and were genuinely gutted to leave. It was a dreamland for us and shattered through the ceiling of our expectations! Couldn’t recommend Cleopatra hotel (adults only) enough!"
