"Hotel d’Inghilterra was exactly what we needed during our five-night stay in Rome. In a city that can feel chaotic, crowded, and especially hot in July, this hotel became our peaceful retreat between adventures.
We were celebrating an anniversary, and from the moment we arrived, the entire team made us feel incredibly welcomed. After sharing the occasion with the hotel prior to arrival, we were delighted to be upgraded to a beautiful superior room, where we found a delicious anniversary chocolate cake waiting for us. It was such a thoughtful gesture and a perfect example of the attention to detail throughout our stay.
The hotel beautifully balances the charm and history of a classic Roman grand hotel with the comfort and standards of a luxury boutique property. The furnishings were beautiful, the marble bathroom was stunning, and the deep soaking tub with multiple showerheads was the perfect place to relax after long days exploring the city. The bed deserves its own mention. It was genuinely the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. I may actually need to write to the hotel to find out what mattress they use because I have never slept that well while traveling.
The location was fantastic. We walked or used bicycles to explore nearly all of the historic center of Rome. The only times we needed taxis were when the July heat became too much and we needed to reach farther destinations like the Colosseum and Trastevere. Coming back to such a comfortable, cool room after exploring Rome was a true luxury.
The service is where Hotel d’Inghilterra truly shines. Xenia, who hosted breakfast each morning, was an absolute delight. She was warm, insightful, and genuinely interested in our days. As someone who works in film, I especially enjoyed talking with her about movies and hearing her recommendations for films that might inspire us. She remembered what we were doing and was excited to hear about our adventures, including our truffle hunting day in the countryside. She is exactly the kind of person who makes a hotel stay memorable.
Alessia at the front desk and the rest of the reception team were wonderful as well. Everyone was helpful, gracious, and professional. Even team members who were still training had the perfect demeanor and made us feel completely taken care of. The doormen were consistently friendly and eager to help every time we came and went.
Housekeeping was impeccable. One of my favorite examples of the hotel’s attention to detail was returning to our room each day and finding my phone charging cable neatly coiled with a custom hotel cable wrap. It is such a small thing, but those little touches communicate a lot about the level of care that goes into the guest experience.
Breakfast was a wonderful start to each day and a highlight of the stay. We loved beginning our mornings with fresh fruit, vegetables, and the beautiful pastry tower that accompanied breakfast. On our first morning, our lattes were not quite as hot as we would have liked. What impressed me was that the restaurant team noticed we were not drinking them and wanted to understand why. They made sure every coffee afterward arrived at the perfect temperature.
We also enjoyed the rooftop, which has an incredible view over Rome. The cocktails are definitely on the pricier side, but their signature cocktail, a sparkling wine cocktail with fig liqueur, may be the best cocktail I have ever had. A note for future guests: if you plan to eat on the rooftop, be aware that the yellow jackets are also interested in the experience! The staff was aware of the issue and did everything they could to help while we were there.
The only thing we wish we had planned differently was booking spa treatments earlier. The spa looked beautiful, but unfortunately there were no massage appointments available during our stay. That is something we will arrange in advance next time.
Hotel d’Inghilterra gave us the perfect combination of Roman history, modern luxury, and genuinely thoughtful hospitality. After long, hot days exploring one of the world’s greatest cities, it felt wonderful to return to a place that was calm, elegant, and welcoming. I would absolutely stay here again if or when returning to Rome."
