Sitges holidays really have it all going on, with a fabulous beach, contemporary art cred and sizzling nightlife. Historically a wine-making town, and today one of Spain’s major LGBT+ destinations, it’s a resort that’s very much kept up with the good times. A base for artists during the development of Spain’s Modernisme movement, which inspired the likes of Picasso, Sitges today has an upmarket, artistic vibe, with lots of great restaurants and galleries.

But people really come on holidays to Sitges to party, and party hard, especially in the peak months of July and August, when the beach parties and club scene are off the hook. It’s also a place to enjoy a dose of relaxed Catalan culture, with pretty districts to explore, great food, shopping and sailing. And if you time it right, you can be in town for one of its legendary festivals, be that Carnival or the October film festival, to ensure a truly unique stay.

Work on that tan
With a dozen or so beaches – and three nudist ones – Sitges’ sandy beaches are the perfect place to soak up some sun and erase those pesky tan lines.
Dance at Carnival
The town becomes a giant glitzy party in February and early March, celebrating Carnival with parades, dances and festive events for days, wrapping up on Ash Wednesday.
Sample the ‘xato’
Sitges has all the Spanish favourites, but the local Catalan dish ‘xato’ includes endive, anchovies, olives and tuna, among other ingredients, served with a traditional pepper sauce.
