Sunway Playa Golf & Spa Hotel

"I am writing this review as I still feel traumatised by my recent stay at this hotel and don’t want others to have the same experience. On first arriving, first impressions were very positive. Great location, beautiful views, friendly reception and restaurant staff, nice pools, brilliant mini market and very clean. Our hotel room was located on the first floor, at the very back of the hotel, which felt somewhat isolated and directly opposite a fire exit. The room was also clean, with great views and facilities such as a fridge and washing machine. However, the furniture and fixtures were very dated with a sofa bed that was rather uncomfortable for our teen. When I asked if any upgrades were available (which I was willing to pay for), I was told there were none available that week – surprising, as we were told the hotel was at 80% capacity. Accepting we were there to stay for the duration, we unpacked and got on with the holiday. We spent most of our second day by the pool and in the hotel room and exited for housekeeping that evening. We then went for a pleasant dinner in the hotel’s Italian restaurant and our teen returned to the room before us. The following day, we discovered some of our items were missing and reported it immediately to the hotel reception and manager. The hotel manager was civilised to my husband but horrible to me. He was extremely dismissive when I expressed deep concerns for our safety and the fact that our son could have disturbed the intruder. Given the narrow window when this all could have happened, it was positioned as all our own fault and how dare I raise the possibility that any of his staff could have been involved. There was no offer to move our rooms and my request for CCTV footage never materialised. Thankfully, someone handed in my husband’s laptop bag to the local police, with the laptop intact, but a phone missing. Luckily, I was wearing my most valuable jewellery, but my wallet, handbag and some other sentimental items were gone. I spent the remainder of the week unable to sleep properly at the thought that our son could have been hurt and someone had invaded our privacy. I remain deeply upset and stressed by the entire experience. As a regular traveller for business and pleasure, I always try to see the positives and it’s such a pity to have to write this review as the hotel does indeed have a lot of positives. However, the manager needs to seriously consider his communications approach, with a thorough review of hotel’s safety and security conducted as a matter of urgency."

"I honestly don’t know where to start…. We were having a wonderful holiday. At 1am this morning we were all woken by people stamping on our ceiling and loud music. We went upstairs and asked for the stamping to stop - we went to reception and pleaded - ‘it’s a private event’ and will finish at 3am. The man Borjia said he would physically remove me if I wouldn’t leave asking for some consideration. Avoid this hotel at all costs - they do not care about people staying and will not advise you about these parties and your holiday"

"I have been coming to this hotel for the past 20 years, and we have always loved its location and the experience it used to provide. Unfortunately, over the years, the overall level of standard has noticeably declined. It is disappointing to see such a significant change, and we are now unsure whether we will return in the future. I sincerely hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously and works to restore the better standards."
