"This is a long but honest and comprehensive review because I believe it is important that future guests have an accurate picture of what to expect.
We booked a 7-night family summer holiday to Hari Club Beach Resort through EasyJet Holidays after reading a wide range of mixed reviews online. Unfortunately, our experience confirmed many of the negative comments.
Before travelling, I contacted the hotel to ask whether food would be available for our late evening arrival. I was assured that although the buffet restaurant closed at 9:30pm, the lobby bar would be serving light refreshments such as pizza, fries and sandwiches. Instead, we were offered tiny baguettes containing only a slice of cucumber, a slice of tomato and a slice of cheese.
Our children, aged 6 and 8, were exhausted after travelling, so we wanted to get them to bed as quickly as possible. We were allocated rooms E4 and E9 and had to carry all of our own luggage, despite travelling with two elderly parents and two young children, as there were no staff available to assist at around 11pm.
The problems began immediately. Room E4 had a strong drainage smell throughout and the bathroom was in an unhygienic condition. Room E9 was extremely hot, the air conditioning was not working, and there were numerous insects crawling across both the floor and the beds. My wife and I immediately returned to Reception to request alternative rooms.
Ranya from the Guest Relations team was very helpful and showed us several other rooms. Unfortunately, every room we viewed had similar issues, including ineffective air conditioning, excessive heat, insects, unpleasant drainage odours and non-functioning refrigerators. More than an hour passed while we searched for suitable accommodation. During this time, our two young children fell asleep in Reception while my elderly parents looked after them.
Eventually, after realising our requests for clean, comfortable, air-conditioned rooms were getting nowhere, we reluctantly accepted two rooms simply to get through the night. We made it very clear that we were unhappy. Tarek Ali at Reception assured us we could change rooms the following morning after breakfast.
This was particularly concerning because we were travelling with medication that had to be stored between 3°C and 8°C. As neither room refrigerator worked, we asked whether it could be stored in the lobby bar fridge. Staff agreed, but only at our own risk.
After an extremely uncomfortable night's sleep, we returned to Reception at 8:00am. We spoke with Bessma and Aziza, who told us that all the rooms were the same and insisted the air conditioning was operating normally throughout the hotel. However, when a maintenance technician inspected our room, he confirmed that the unit was only blowing warm air like a fan and was not producing cold air. Aziza acknowledged there was an issue and promised it would be repaired that evening. Unfortunately, nothing was done.
Throughout our stay, it became clear that management were fully aware of the hotel's ongoing problems but were unwilling to resolve them. Around the pool and in the restaurant, many guests were discussing exactly the same issues and expressing similar frustrations. Most appeared to receive the same dismissive responses we did.
Guests with dietary requirements should also be aware that there were no sugar-free soft drinks available during our stay. For anyone with diabetes or similar medical needs, this significantly limits the already poor drinks selection.
I was also disappointed by the currency exchange service. On exchanging £100, the official exchange rate was 3.899, meaning I should have received 389.9 Tunisian Dinars. Instead, Jelizi Ali gave me only 385 Dinars, claiming he had no smaller denominations. When I exchanged more money later in the week, exactly the same thing happened. When I questioned the previous shortfall, it was denied. I would therefore advise guests to carefully check every exchange transaction.
The hotel's advertised facilities also did not match reality. It is promoted as having five bars, but only three were operating during our stay: the lobby bar, the pool bar and a very small beach bar. Infact, the staff members including easyJet Holiday representation could only name the three bars. Also, there is only one buffet restaurant and one à la carte restaurant, despite advertising two à la carte restaurants.
Food choices were limited throughout the week and the quality and variety of the all-inclusive drinks were disappointing.
One of the biggest concerns was hygiene. There were large numbers of insects inside the buffet restaurant. We repeatedly reported this to restaurant staff and Reception, but no meaningful action was taken beyond simply wiping ants away from the serving area. In fact, Jelizi Ali openly stated that pest infestations were normal at the hotel and that they did not worry about cleaning because the insects were not dangerous and did not bite. This attitude towards hygiene was extremely concerning.
Our room also contained a cockroach, numerous spiders and other insects in the bathroom and around the bedding, as well as a gecko. Combined with the ineffective air conditioning, unpleasant odours and poor maintenance, this made the accommodation very uncomfortable.
The entertainment team was another big disappointment of our stay. Compared with other all-inclusive resorts we have visited, the animation programme was extremely limited. We are used to hotels having a team of at least five animation staff who organise a variety of games, sports and family activities throughout the day, followed by a children's mini-disco and evening entertainment. At Hari Club Beach Resort, only two members of the team, Snoop and Dana, appeared to be actively engaging with guests and organising activities.
One member of the animation team, Sisqo, behaved inappropriately towards several female guests by making unwanted sexual comments and expressing his desire to engage in sexual activity with them. This behaviour was completely unacceptable in a family resort. During our stay, we were informed that he had been dismissed from his position.
During our 7-night stay, the evening entertainment lacked both variety and quality. The programme consisted of karaoke on three evenings, a dance competition on two evenings, and a belly dancing performance on one evening. Compared with other all-inclusive resorts we have visited, the entertainment felt repetitive and very limited, giving the impression of a low-budget programme with little variety for guests staying for a full week.
Overall, this hotel has significant issues with cleanliness, maintenance, facilities and customer service. While there were a small number of staff members, particularly Ranya, who genuinely tried to help, they were clearly limited by wider management failings.
We seriously considered ending our holiday early, but unfortunately there were no earlier return flights available to the UK.
Based on our experience, I would not recommend Hari Club Beach Resort and would strongly encourage prospective guests to consider these issues carefully before booking."
