"We stayed for a week in early May as a couple, overall we did have a nice break away but there was some points which made our holiday feel average and left us disappointed. The hotel is clean and modern in areas, plenty of sunlounges and places to sit but in peak summer season this may become more difficult. There was a lot of people there for cycling which is what the area is known for but I do think this also helped with the hotel being quieter.
The buffet was nice, a lot of options available daily but it was cold. There was a microwave available to use but the large dinner plates did not fit into it so had to use small dessert plate for warm food - which I feel is a little inconvenient. Unfortunately for us there was not one night where the food was warm, only food that came off the grill was warm as this was fresh so that’s expected.
Our main issues of disappointment came when making requests via reception, overall we didn’t feel reception staff to be the friendliest and it felt like everything was a massive ask. Told various things by different staff, so requests always felt dismissed.
We couldn’t work out the air conditioning setting, it appeared to be on but felt no air coming from it so called reception for help, was told an electrician would have a look in the morning and was offered a fan for the mean time which was helpful. Morning came, and by the afternoon we still have no circulation of air so called to ask if someone had been. We were then told they had and there was no issue, after being passed around a few people we were told that in fact there was no 'air con' setting as it can only be set to either cold or hot for the full of the building and that we were to “open a window”. I understand for some people the temperature was on the lower side, but it feels unfair to determine everyone’s levels of comfort they feel within their room whilst on holiday and I feel that it could be useful for it to be noted that aircon is seasonal as this felt misleading.
All the English channels stopped in the room around 6/7pm every single night. We would manage to watch TV during the day but have nothing while getting ready for dinner, again when we asked at reception we were told it was because of the 'storm' but we were watching English TV during the storm so this didn’t make sense so we eventually gave up.
We requested a late check-out if possible, told to come back after breakfast the day of and this would cost 30 euro. Came the next day and was instantly told not possible, no ask of room number was a straight no. Again I understand it’s not always possible but there was an instantly dismissive response. Our transfer was 7pm at night so this was a long time to spend sitting around a reception area as the weather wasn’t the best this day.
By observing the hotel was mostly quiet, unless every single person was cycling or didn’t leave their room the hotel did not feel 'full' to be unable to facilitate this request.
We have come home feeling a little disheartened and know we wouldn’t return to this hotel, but the area is lovely and has a local feel. Plenty of restaurants and bars close by, and the beach is a short walk which was nice for a stroll along."
