"We have just returned from another stay at Hotel Best Mediterraneo in Salou after booking with Jet2 Holidays and, overall, had a very enjoyable holiday once again.
The location is excellent. The beach, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, shops and the main pedestrianised strip are all just a few minutes' walk away, making it an ideal base for exploring Salou without needing transport.
The reception team deserve special praise. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Before arriving, I had emailed the hotel with several room requests, and I was delighted to find that every request had been accommodated. As returning guests, we were also welcomed with a lovely note in our room thanking us for choosing to stay again, along with a few complimentary items for our stay. It was a thoughtful gesture that made us feel genuinely valued and appreciated.
The restaurant staff were equally polite and friendly. Occasionally, table service for drinks could be a little slow, but considering the long hours the team work throughout the season and that we were visiting towards the very end of it, this was understandable and did not significantly impact our holiday.
The food itself was delicious, with plenty of choice at every meal. There was an excellent selection of hot and cold dishes, freshly made pizzas, show cooking for burgers, steak and chicken, a dedicated children's station, an extensive salad and deli section, and a wide variety of hot dishes. There was genuinely something for everyone.
One thing worth mentioning is that the hotel was due to close for the season on 12th October, just a few days after our departure. As the week progressed, some of the food choices became slightly less extensive. However, this was completely understandable, as the hotel was trying to minimise food waste at the very end of the season. There was still plenty of choice available, and this certainly wasn't a problem for us.
The cleaning staff were excellent. Our room was maintained to a very high standard throughout our stay, and cleanliness across the hotel was consistently impressive.
The only issue we encountered was with Room 630. There was a very strong sewage odour coming from the toilet and bathroom drainage system. The bathroom itself was spotless, so this was clearly not a cleanliness issue, but appeared to be related to the drainage infrastructure. The smell was particularly noticeable overnight and, on some occasions, was strong enough to disturb our sleep.
We reported the problem to reception, who explained that Salou had experienced significant rainfall and that the drainage systems sometimes struggle to cope under those conditions. Maintenance attended promptly and poured treatment down the toilet and drains, which helped temporarily, but unfortunately the smell returned fairly quickly. In the end, we purchased air fresheners and toilet cleaner from a local supermarket to help mask the odour for the remainder of our stay.
Despite this issue, we appreciated the efforts made by both the reception and maintenance teams to help, and it certainly did not overshadow an otherwise enjoyable holiday.
Overall, Hotel Best Mediterraneo continues to offer excellent value for money, a fantastic location, friendly staff, very good food and excellent customer service. We would happily return for another stay, although we hope the drainage issue in Room 630 can be resolved for future guests.
The only reason for awarding 4 stars rather than 5 is the sewage odour issue in our room. Had this problem not been present, this review would have been an easy 5-star rating, just like all of our previous stays at the hotel. The staff, food, cleanliness and location all remain excellent. In fact, despite this issue, we have already booked to return twice in 2027, which should give an indication of how highly we regard the hotel overall. We look forward to seeing the team again and enjoying many more stays in the future.
