Rua Francisco Rocha Soares 54: good location, clean studio apartment, but without a “real” window (hardly any daylight)
"studio apartment - 2nd floor Positive • good communication upfront • efficient check-in process • clean apartment with all necessary appliances • wifi working well • good location … just 10 minutes walk to the Cais de Ribeira • close to final stop of bus line 601 (airport line) Negative • They charge 8 Euro extra for a late check-in (after 20.00h) • Actually no window in the apartment .. just a “balcony” door leading to a balcony with just walls around … you could only see a little bit of the sky if you look straight up – the pictures shown on the booking.com site were taken without revealing the “almost-no-daylight” situation – and they show different apartments – so you were somehow mislead • Very small shower … you could hardly get into the narrow shower cubicle and you could hardly bend over to soap yourself up (and I am a regular grown up man … not fat) • actually a quiet location, but the floorboards of the apartment above have creaked quite loudly"
Great value apartment with everything you need
"I should say from the off that I stayed here almost a year ago, so my review predates Covid quite considerably. I booked the apartment well in advance and a few days before my stay received an email with instructions re check in and where to get keys etc. I messaged back accordingly with my estimated arrival time and again once I was en route to the apartment. I have to say it wasn't the easiest place to find, but this isn't the fault of the rental company but my navigation app. Ana met me outside the apartment and she was reallly friendly and helpful, making sure that I knew where everything was and how to contact her if I needed anything - I didn't but it was reassuring to know that the option was there. The apartment was for me fabulous - I had the ground floor studio which was perfect for a couple or indeed a solo traveller like me. I never had issues with loud fridges or loud anything, and I'm a very light sleeper. The apartment just the right temperature - important for a menopausal woman! There was a small table and a few chairs in the main room with an expandable wardrobe which I never used and of course the bed, which was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in. The kitchen and bathroom were at the other end of the studio behind a partition which could be closed at night - I left it slightly open so I could find the bathroom in the dark. The kitchen had everything I needed with plenty of utensils including a small dishwasher and a food sized fridge. The shower was great too with plenty of hot water and nice fluffy towels. Once I got to know the city I realised that this is a perfect location - close to the city centre and the river but also quiet and secluded. You can walk to most places within no more than 15 minutes or so and the train station is not much further away. There are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets close by for those want to eat out - or prefer to self cater. I did a bit of both. All in all for me this was a brilliant place to stay - very well located for an excellent price and really comfortable and well equipped."
Loved it and cant wait to go back
"We stayed in the top floor apartment which has 2 beds and a sofabed. This is not the apartment with the balcony/patio which I would love to try next time. The apartment was perfect for a winter stay. With a huge window facing the Douro river, the view is absolutely stunning both day and night. The apartment is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We stayed over Christmas and though we didn't cook we did prepare and heat food. We had everything we needed there. Anna was our host, she greeted us upon arrival and was very flexible with our check-in process. She was so friendly and helpful, she left us with so much information that we didn't actually need to call her while we were there (we stayed for a week). The neighborhood is amazing. It is so beautiful. On the very first night, we found a restaurant, Intrigo, right next door to the apartment that was the best dining experience we had during our whole stay in Porto. It was a pleasure leaving the apartment to walk out to the cobblestone streets in the morning and just as nice to return at night to the apartment with the view of Douro and Gaia, the bridges and the lights from the port wineries across the river. I give this my best grade and reviews and again, I really look forward to going back there. Hopefully this year."
