"Only used the restaurant so can’t give a review on hotel/gym. Genuinely the worst servive I have ever received! Do places interview staff anymore or literally just accept whoever walks through the door because i’ve never seen so many incompetent staff in one place before? Not to mention a few of them looking like theyd literally just rolled out of bed with their creased untucked shirt and white trainers. Along with my wife and father in law, we booked in to the restaurant of The Village for a meal before a show at The Hydro. When we arrived, the restaurant area was pretty empty and we seen most tables had reserved signs on them with peoples names and times. However the waitress couldnt find our booking. It then took her 5 minutes to wander round looking for our name on a table. Once we sat down i seen the same thing happening with quite a few other customers who came in and the staff looking clueless. We ordered our drinks and waited 15 minutes before I had to go and ask where they were. I could understand if the place was busy but at this time there was still only a few tables. When they did finally arrive, a wine glass was extremely dirty so that got sent back. We then ordered our food and the waitress explained a couple offers to us which we used. A waiter brought our food but brought a couple of wrong items, and when I told him this, he stared in to space for about 30 seconds before saying hed go sort it. His way of sorting it was by getting the waitress who took our order to come over and tell us that we were wrong and it was what we ordered. The cheek of her thinking we didnt know what we ordered, especially when it was the offers she’d explained to us we’d taken her up on. It wasnt like we were trying to get more expensive items out of them. So I argued my case and we eventually got the right items. At this point the manager came over, unfortunately I didnt get her name because she was actually the only one who seemed to care and I felt sorry for her having to manage this group of staff who cant even get the basics right. She was very apologetic and gave us a free round of drinks which we did appreciate, but then the drinks didnt come for another 20 minutes and I had to go and find the manager again. She, rightly, seemed furious with her staff and said shed get it sorted immediately which she did, so again I cant fault her. The food itself was ok, nothing outstanding. The ‘wagyu’ burgers for £20 are a rip off and definitely not wagyu. We had also seen the staff taking a few items to wrong tables, but then they came to us with a tray of soft drinks and we said it wasnt ours, they must have then went to 4 other tables before getting the right one. To top everything off, i then thought im not waiting half an hour for another round of drinks so i’ll just go to the bar. Asked for three drinks so pretty easy to remember. I had to repeat myself 4 times because the barmaid keot forgetting. The whole experience was laughable really. A big hotel with a massive venue over the road so should be used to serving and giving good quality, yet it was like it was everyones first day on earth."
