"Booked their penthouse for the weekend just gone. Check in time is stated as 14:00hrs although I was kept waiting until 15:00hrs which was frustrating after an extremely long travel and just wanting to get in and unpacked.
Even more infuriating was having to sit and watch those that had booked the budget rooms being able to check in on-time and even in some cases early, as I was sat waiting in the reception from 12:30hrs.
The reason given to me for the wait was that the penthouse was a large room.. well surely if it’s that large you should prioritise cleaning this first, especially as it is your most ‘premium” highest cost room.
Bet if the shoe was on the other foot and I was checking out an hour late, they would expect additional costs and be making a fuss, but for me to check in an hour late, there wasn’t much urgency and no offer of compensation or any compassion. I know it’s only one hour - but when you factor in the cost of the penthouses, it’s costing me almost £15 p/h and I couldn’t access it for the first hour.. with no recourse back to me.
Eventually got in to said room and there was still stains across the kitchen bar as they had obviously rushed as quick as they could to try and catch up with me waiting. The floor was also still soaking wet. This was again frustrating as it did not feel very clean, in the kitchen area, so I avoided using this for the stay and had wet feet the smell of cleaning chemicals for my nap after travelling.
The penthouses are listed as having private balconies on the website, however this is not the case and they are actually shared with just a small ankle high plant pot between you, the other room’s and the people staying in them on their balconies. Which is a bit misleading as I was hoping for a private relaxation out on the top floor but instead was virtually sitting with a couple chatting away. Not the peace of mind I really wanted and again misleading, think you should change how this is advertised or put partitions between each balcony on the top floor.
Hotel is listed as no smoking but every evening there was someone either smoking a cigarette or weed which wafts up into the room. The weed smell was also constantly in the lift, so when returning each night, it’s all you can smell whilst going up to your room. Sad to see the smoking is not policed by the staff at all.
The only thing really going for this place is the central location and the rooms are OK (when clean). So I have gave you the respective ratings for them.
But yeah overall a disappointment really for the price paid and far from what is shown on the website. Fried to keep the room as clean as possible to the next poor sod that books it isn’t waiting like I was and losing out on money and time.
Would I stay again? Probably not, with the uncleanliness, weed smells it’s a bit like paying exorbitant amounts to stop in a council flat but I appreciate these things might not bother everyone."
