Good Points;
Airport Transfer – Get a private taxi its only round the corner, saves having to visit other hotels
Location - Soho Square is in walking distance or the hotel bus drops you off nearby and brings you back which runs every 15 minutes from 0700 to 2300 hrs approx. This is the bus that also takes you to the front hotel for the beach. There is an English Bar “Old Vic” on the right-hand side as you are entering Soho Square, very reasonable prices and “good food”and singers.
Use “in drive app” to take a taxi to the Old Town Market, this is worth a trip and is more traditional and a lot cheaper. It does get busy but more to see and is about £8 return in a taxi.
Staff – the floor staff do an amazing job. They work very long hours and only go home about every two months. They can’t do enough for you, if you can, a tip can mean a lot to them.
I would like to mention all staff individually but these are the ones that went above and beyond; Ibrahim the pool bar man, he certainly looks after you, such a pleasant man and we often saw him taking drinks to those who were less abled along with others. Lifeguards; Mohammed the supervisor and Mohammed (Bob) made sure our beds and towels were ready every day and often came round asking if we needed anything, absolutely faultless. Staff were brilliant.
Lobby Bar - all of the staff were very pleasant; Sayed, Kerols E.L. Rahman were such happy guys and made beautiful cocktails. Mr Rahman was a happy cheeky man and kept us entertained. The guy who does Ice Creams and who also works in the lobby bar (sorry I have forgot your name) works very hard and makes any drink you ask for. Hassan was very pleasant and always asked how we were and offered us a lift home on the buggy, thank you.
Restaurant; all of the staff were very helpful, one of the supervisors (very tall slim man) who left to go home during our stay always ensured our table was beautifully set and always made our breakfast tea. Thank you, sir.
The gardens are well maintained and the gardeners were working every day, very pretty to see.
The sea at the front hotel is beautiful for Snorkelling but it does get very busy.
Negative points which made us not want to revisit;
We have been to Egypt four times before and this was the worst hotel for interior looks, food and entertainment.
Food - We hardly had a “hot” meal in our 14 days stay apart from the omelette which was made in front of you. The majority of the food was luke warm, including the soup. We noted that the food is either kept warm by tea lights or water in both the snack bar and main restaurant.
Pool Snack bar - hotdog, burger and chips are the only options. On one occasion I ordered a burger and chips, the burger was half cooked and the chips were cold, I sent it back, I was offered another but refused. We did try again but again the chips were cold – the young chef could see we weren’t happy and made a fresh batch which were hot. We witnessed several people taking their food back or throwing it in the bin from the snack bar around the main pool.
Entertainment – we gave up; basically, the restaurant opens at 1900 hrs and the evening entertainment is outside from 1930 to 2100 hrs which is when people are inside eating their meal, if you want to watch it you have to eat outside in the heat. Sometimes the entertainment stopped at 2030 hrs. On occasions you do get a singer in after 2030. After this the “same entertainment” moves to the front hotel. We were told the entertainment has to stop early because of the location of the rooms; you’re on holiday not to go to bed at 2100 hrs?
In the lobby bar about 1900 hrs you get a violinist or similar for about half an hour then a man plays the piano from about 2000 hrs. We don’t go on holiday for entertainment but for the size of the hotel it could do better.
During the day the odd game of water polo, aerobics, darts and yoga, pool party once a week. The beach party is at the front of the hotel.
We only went to the front/beach hotel to snorkel as it was absolutely jam packed by 1000 and you couldn’t get a bed; it was not our idea of relaxing.
The hotel appears to have a lot of Supervisors/managers who were good at standing around doing nothing and not helping staff when there were queues. We often saw “shouting” at staff – praise in public and criticize in private.
Hotel interior– our room 1989 needed a good scrub especially the floors (we never felt it was clean). The bathroom needs replacing; tiles mismatched, holes in the shower wall where a handle had been moved. Lots of botched up silicone and painting. The room furniture was damaged and scruffy appearance, not a five star room.
The main pool bar needs a full upgrade as it looks very run down. The tiling is scruffy with pits falling off and silicone trying to cover it up. The pool bar at the front hotel is a lot nicer."
