"I have a few points I would like to comment on, and I will also respond to some of the other reviews here:
1/ Hotel - Arcanus is a relatively new hotel, which is definitely reflected in its interior. There is nothing to be ashamed of — the design is modern and well-maintained. We stayed in a Superior Room, and although the bathroom is quite small, the shower itself is very spacious. The rest of the room feels pleasantly spacious as well.
The minibar is replenished daily with water, mineral water and soft drinks. The room cleaning, as well as the cleanliness of the entire hotel, was absolutely excellent — first-class service.
2/ Food - I’m probably not as picky as some other reviewers, but I was completely satisfied with the food. Breakfast always had everything I could ask for. Lunch in the main restaurant was somewhat less impressive, but you have to keep in mind that some guests will be eating at the beach or at poolside restaurant. Dinner was often themed (Turkish cuisine, seafood, etc.) and once again offered a wide variety of choices.
Celiac disease / Gluten-free food
This deserves a section of its own. My girlfriend needs a gluten-free diet, and I know how difficult it can be to find reliable information about hotels, so I’m going to go into a little more detail here in the hope that it will help someone in the future.
When we arrived, we went to Guest Relations, where we were given a card that we were supposed to present whenever we were dining. The kitchen was also informed about her dietary requirements. We were told that whenever we visited the main restaurant, my girlfriend should find one of the head chefs, who would go through the available food options with her. They also offered to prepare something special for her, such as pasta, pancakes, desserts or bread.
And that is exactly how it worked. Everything worked very well. One of the head chefs didn’t speak English, but he found someone to translate, and there was genuinely not a single problem in this regard. A huge thank you to everyone involved!
There is, however, one thing I have to point out. Although allergens are listed next to the dishes, the information is not always accurate. The first head chef we spoke to told us this immediately, which I find quite alarming. If a guest were to rely solely on the listed allergens, they could easily ruin their entire holiday from the very first day.
So please be careful and always check with the kitchen staff if you have celiac disease or a serious gluten intolerance.
3/Entertainment and Quiet Hours
The music ends at 11:15 p.m., and the bars remain open until midnight, so things only become noticeably quieter after midnight. There is a children’s disco every day, followed by an hour-long entertainment program, which we found very enjoyable. The program included various dance groups, a Mongolian circus and even karaoke.
As for the daytime entertainment, it is certainly enjoyable and unlikely to disappoint. During the day, you can play darts, water polo or beach volleyball, exercise in the pool, or join in some dancing by the pool.
4/ Wi-Fi - We have never experienced such poor Wi-Fi at a hotel before. We heard a lot of other guests complaining about it as well. We were actually glad that I had bought an eSIM, so I could use my phone as a hotspot for my girlfriend.
I understand that people don’t go on holiday to spend their time watching YouTube or scrolling through Instagram, but I still think a certain basic standard should be expected from a hotel like this. The Wi-Fi really needs improvement.
5/ Elevators - Apart from the main building, getting around by elevator is absolutely problem-free, with little to no waiting time. However, it is true that if I had been staying in the main building, I would probably have walked up and down a lot of stairs during our holiday.
6/ Beach - The beach is approximately 1,500 metres from the hotel, and the shuttle bus runs every 10–15 minutes. Two shuttle vans operate simultaneously, each with a capacity of around 17–18 people. I have to say that we often didn’t have to wait at all.
The only thing that can ruin your day is other guests trying to squeeze into the van at all costs, but that is certainly not the hotel’s fault.
7/ English Communication
I have to say that the level of English was not particularly impressive. That being said, I cannot say that we ever had a problem that we were unable to resolve. It really depends on who you happen to speak to. If someone doesn’t understand you one day, try asking a colleague, come back later, or simply use modern technology — after all, almost everyone has a translator on their phone nowadays.
I know that reviews are often answered by the Guest Relations team, so I’ll allow myself a small complaint: we honestly expected a slightly higher level of English from you in particular. However, I believe this is something you can improve, and despite this, we would still like to thank you very much for your time, help and care throughout our stay.
Phew, I’ve written quite a lot here, so I might as well wrap things up. We stayed here for 11 days and definitely enjoyed our holiday. Most of the bartenders, housekeepers and other members of staff were friendly, smiling and provided a very good level of service.
Finally, a special thank you to the Balinese massage therapists — terima kasih! We really enjoyed the wellness facilities and the massages were a wonderful part of our stay."
