"We stayed at Voyage Kundu as a family of five with children aged 6, 9 and 12. We’ve previously stayed at Sani, Ikos, Maxx Royal Belek, Cullinan and Voyage Belek, so we have a good benchmark for luxury family resorts.
We booked Voyage Kundu because, based on its pricing, reputation and reviews, we expected it to offer a noticeably superior experience to Voyage Belek. We paid considerably more than we would have for Voyage Belek or Cullinan, expecting the higher price to be reflected in every aspect of the holiday. While the rooms are undoubtedly beautiful, our overall experience simply didn’t justify that premium.
The Positives
The rooms are stunning, modern, spacious and beautifully designed and the resort itself is visually impressive.
The gym was another highlight. It was modern, spacious, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. However, on two occasions guests brought young children into the gym while adults were exercising. It didn’t feel appropriate for what should be a dedicated fitness space, and staff didn’t intervene.
My husband also arranged for our room to be decorated for our wedding anniversary, which was a lovely touch and something we genuinely appreciated.
Arrival
Our holiday didn’t get off to the best start. Check-in felt surprisingly informal, with no welcoming arrival experience or staff waiting to greet guests. For a hotel positioning itself as ultra-luxury, it lacked the warmth and attention to detail we expected.
Food & Dining
The food was, without question, the biggest disappointment of our stay.
Breakfast felt limited, and the buffet throughout the holiday was average at best. As vegetarians, we’ve never struggled at any luxury resort before. Every hotel we’ve stayed at has always provided a good variety of vegetarian dishes, including Indian food.
On our first day we met with the Head Chef, who confidently assured us there would be Indian food available every day for lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. We ended up having to pre-order meals because there were so few suitable vegetarian options.
Although this sounded like a good solution, the execution was poor. We were told to give our room number and explain we had a special order, but many waiters didn’t understand what we meant, even after using Google Translate. It often took several members of staff before anyone understood the request.
Our wedding anniversary summed this up perfectly. Despite arranging our meal in advance because of our dietary requirements, my pasta arrived containing meat. It was such a basic mistake that unfortunately took away from what should have been a special evening.
Restaurant service overall was slow and inconsistent. Hot drinks regularly arrived without spoons or sugar, drinks were often only lukewarm, and orders were frequently incorrect.
The evening buffet was another disappointment. It was loud, busy and chaotic. Finding a table was often difficult because many empty tables hadn’t been cleared, leaving guests wandering around looking for somewhere to sit. There didn’t appear to be anyone helping guests find or prepare a table.
The atmosphere wasn’t relaxing either, with many children watching programmes on phones and tablets at full volume. It felt more like a busy food court than a luxury dining experience.
The à la carte restaurants were also frustrating. If you wanted to view the menu, you were simply given a QR code, meaning one person often needed a second phone just to read the menu while ordering. Staff seemed to think this was perfectly acceptable.
Service
This was where Voyage Kundu fell furthest short.
Many staff openly said they didn’t speak English and, rather than trying to help, often passed us to someone else or simply walked away. We completely understand language barriers, but the willingness to help often felt lacking.
Throughout the holiday we spent an incredible amount of time messaging the Voyage Assistants through the app requesting basic items that should have been replenished automatically, water bottles, tea bags, clean cups, spoons, towels and housekeeping items.
Constantly having to message for every small request became exhausting and genuinely took away from our holiday.
During the day we requested bottled water for our room and, after waiting four to five hours without it arriving, we eventually gave up and collected some ourselves from one of the restaurants.
Everything simply felt slow, and too often there was a feeling that problems became someone else’s responsibility rather than being owned and resolved.
I do, however, want to acknowledge Anisa from the Voyage Assistants team. She genuinely tried to help us wherever she could and was always polite and responsive. Unfortunately, it often felt like there was only so much she could do because the underlying issues appeared to be with the hotel’s systems, communication and staff training rather than any one individual.
The resort also lacked atmosphere. Despite plenty of staff being visible, there was very little interaction with guests. A simple smile, greeting or willingness to help would have made a huge difference.
Housekeeping & Maintenance
Housekeeping was inconsistent throughout our stay.
Used cups were frequently left behind, clean cups weren’t replaced, tea bags weren’t replenished and bottled water regularly had to be requested rather than automatically restocked.
We also experienced a maintenance issue where part of the ceiling above the en-suite shower started coming away. The technician repaired it but left dust and debris throughout the bathroom. Housekeeping wasn’t arranged afterwards, meaning we once again had to contact concierge and chase the request. It took another two to three hours before someone eventually came to clean the bathroom.
Again, another issue that required unnecessary follow-up from us.
Hygiene & Pool Areas
There were several hygiene concerns.
Ice cream remained on the floor for some time without being cleaned, and at the chocolatier we watched a member of staff take back a used plate, wipe it with their hand and place it straight back onto the pile for other guests to use.
Around the pool areas, dirty plates, glasses and leftover food regularly remained on tables for long periods, and food on the floor wasn’t cleared promptly.
There were also several occasions when towel stations had no towels available. When we informed concierge, we were first asked whether we’d checked other towel stations ourselves. Guests shouldn’t be expected to walk around the resort searching for towels.
The patio around our private pool was also extremely slippery when wet. Both my husband and our son slipped while simply walking, not running, which we felt was a genuine safety concern.
There also appeared to be a wasp nest somewhere in the garden area, and unfortunately our son was stung during our stay.
Water Park
The water park was another major disappointment.
Based on the marketing material and photographs, we expected something much larger and more impressive. In reality, it was small and nowhere near comparable to the facilities at other luxury family resorts.
Rooms
The rooms themselves are beautiful, but the technology isn’t always reliable. The lighting controls frequently failed to work properly, and the heavy sliding patio doors weren’t particularly practical.
Departure
Our final disappointment came at the end of the holiday.
We had a late evening flight and were told late check-out wasn’t available. While we understand this isn’t always possible, what surprised us was the lack of suitable facilities for families leaving later in the day.
Instead, we were advised to use the communal spa showers. Travelling with three young children, having to shower and get everyone changed in open changing facilities isn’t what we’d expect from a luxury family resort.
At Voyage Belek there is a dedicated Comfort Lounge where late-departure guests can relax, shower in private facilities and wait comfortably before travelling home. Considering Voyage Kundu positions itself as a premium resort, we expected at least the same level of guest care.
Overall
There were several other smaller issues throughout our stay that we’ve not even included here. Individually they may have seemed minor, but together they significantly affected the overall experience.
What makes this even more disappointing is that all of these issues occurred during a stay of just five days. It wasn’t a two-week holiday where occasional problems are perhaps inevitable, we found ourselves repeatedly chasing basic requests and dealing with avoidable issues from start to finish.
Voyage Kundu looks like a luxury resort, but in our experience it doesn’t consistently operate like one. The rooms are beautiful, but luxury is about far more than aesthetics. It’s about service, attention to detail and making guests feel genuinely looked after.
Having stayed at several comparable luxury resorts, we would happily return to Voyage Belek or Cullinan before choosing Voyage Kundu again.
Sadly, based on our experience, we cannot recommend Voyage Kundu, particularly to families expecting a true luxury holiday. We left feeling disappointed rather than refreshed and, despite the beautiful rooms, we would not choose to return."
