Hotel Poseidon

"Home from Home this is not.. The Suites have had half the furniture removed. The lounge had a lumpy sofa bed with a dirty cover on it that I would not let my dog sleep on Room service obviously thought it was bad as they threw a sheet over it when the room was cleaned. Rooms have random windows to the interior walkways with blinds pulled down at all times because why would you. Floors are painted concrete and give a great sqeek effect when walking everywhere. Shower is in the bath, no bath slip mat so abit precarious getting in and out and the shower would not stay up on the pole so basically a manual wash.. Hairdryer over heats after 1 minute wait 5 continue.. No kettle or tea, coffee making facilities in the room you have to visit the bar or resturant for a hot drink from 07:30. These are then made from vending machines (terrible coffee). Mini bar consisted of 4 tins of water. Stairwell and lift area has the feel of a multistory carpark, rusty rails, concrete broken tiles and plain dirty decor, no personal touches unless you call dead pot plants decor. Positivet clean rooms, breakfast was ok but no enriched.."

"The location of the hotel is twofold - not in a very tidy area, but that's not the hotel's fault, but it is only a 10 minute walk to the port to catch a ferry to the Isle of Capri and there is a supermarket (with alcohol) just around the corner). It's a large hotel, with a huge foyer/lobby, which houses the reception area, a lounge (with a large TV), a bar and two central lifts - two lifts in a hotel; what a bonus!! The total area had retro furniture, but it was a little sterile, perhaps too cavernous and the bar was only open for limited hours. Notwithstanding that, the accommodation was good. A large room, comfortable bed, good shower, although perhaps the bathroom was a little small in proportion to the room, air con, safe, fridge and free wi-fi. No complaints whatsoever. The breakfast room/restaurant is on the top floor with a great view over the port and the Tyrrhenian Sea and on a clear day, you can sea Capri. It is an enormous room with some very large, round tables, which is great for a group of people to converse with each other, but with 14 and 30 seats respectively, perhaps just too big. Breakfast was good for cold options, although no orange juice or decent bread for toast. Our tour included dinner in the restaurant as well and that too, was very reasonable. All in all, a good stay for two nights. "

"This hotel is a mixed bag of great and not so great. The location is very good for hoping onto trains (best use the circumvesuviana line) to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Sorrento. The best train line to/from Naples and Sarno is the one outside the hotel. The staff were very helpful and attended to our requests for information and equipment (for the room). On the last point, we booked a 2 bedroom apartment that was very spacious, comfortable beds, nice views and very clean. However, while the apartment had a fridge freezer, it did not have a sink unit or any utensils to self cater. We asked for a kettle, some cups, spoons and glasses etc so we could prepare drinks and snacks, but it would have been nice if these could have been provided as standard. There are a couple of decent supermarkets nearby but check the opening times, especially on Sundays/holidays. We can highly recommend the Ristorante pizzeria Da Ciccio for food and drinks. The key down point is arguably beyond the control of the hotel but we were disappointed with the amount of dog mess on the streets near the hotel and in Torre Del Greco generally; this appears to be a local issue as the problem was not as prominent in Sorrento, Naples, Capri or Stabia. Overall a good value hotel with lovely staff but room for improvement regarding the room facilities."
