"Excellent location and a nice room, but the service, amenities, and overall value does not match the pricing.
First, the positives. The location on the waterfront is excellent. Note that the roadway in front of the hotel is currently under construction, with extremely limited vehicle traffic (one lane, one direction). This means no traffic noise, which is really nice. There was no active construction while we were there, but it could be a problem once it starts up again. Access by vehicle can be a challenge due to the closed roadway (took us 2 hours to travel the last 1.5 miles by car the day of our arrival - absolute gridlock).
After switching rooms due to a problem with our first room (see below), we wound up in a junior suite on the corner. The room was spacious and attractive, with a lovely view of the Gulf of Naples. There was a combined circular jacuzzi tub/shower, which was a bit awkward as a shower but nice for soaking. Bed was comfortable, with high quality linen sheets.
Where this property falls down is providing service and value commensurate with the very high rates. There was no pre-arrival welcome email, nor any advance warning about the serious traffic impacts of the road closure. We were given one small bottle of free water for a two night stay. Tea and coffee (Nescafe instant) were not replenished. Front desk staff were competent, but there was no warmth or real welcome at all - the only exception being the porter, Mario, who was both charming and extraordinarily helpful.
We also had an issue with the very strong chemical scent of the air freshener used by housekeeping. It was overpowering. It was so unpleasant, we had to move from our initial room; the second room was better, but the scent was ever-present in the hallway. We found it baffling the hotel would use such a strong and unpleasantly scented product.
While this was not a bad stay by any means, I would have a hard time recommending this property in light of the very high pricing."
