"We stayed one night at the Cosmo Hotel in Milan and, unfortunately, the experience was well below expectations. In our opinion, the four-star rating does not reflect the level of the services and the property.
The room was spacious, but cold and impersonal, with dated and poorly maintained furnishings. The minibar was old and completely inefficient: it did not cool the drinks at all, making it effectively useless. The closet, too, open and lacking any element of quality, was equipped exclusively with cheap plastic hangers, a detail that contributes to conveying a general sense of neglect.
The bathroom disappointed us just as much. The shower was of modest quality and the complimentary toiletries were reduced to the essentials: two mini bottles of shampoo, two of body wash, a shower cap, and a bar of soap. For a hotel of this category, it is truly a minimal offering. Furthermore, the hair dryer was an old plastic model, similar to those from the 70s, not very powerful and practically incapable of drying hair in a reasonable amount of time.
The most negative note, however, concerns the rest. Our room overlooked the main street and, given the proximity to the hospital, we were disturbed by the continuous passing of ambulances and traffic. The soundproofing of the windows proved insufficient for a facility of this level.
Breakfast was also not up to par. The selection, for both sweet and savory, was limited and many products were packaged, from the jams to the fruit juices. To make matters worse, the presentation was poorly cared for, with food arranged on the trays in a rather sad and uninviting way.
The restaurant deserves a separate chapter. Decidedly high prices compared to what was offered: we paid 52 euros for a plate of pasta with octopus sauce, a mixed fried platter that looked like a half portion, a bottle of sparkling water, and a 4 euro cover charge. A bill that we consider absolutely disproportionate to the quality and quantities served.
The dining room service also appeared unprofessional. The waiter, arriving at the table with the plate, instead of serving it correctly, asked us to move the napkin because he needed to set the plate down. A trivial episode, but one that demonstrates inadequate training. The young woman taking orders, who seemed to be the only person managing the entire dining room, also kept the television on DJ Television with loud rap music. In a hotel restaurant, especially in the evening hours, it would be more appropriate to create a relaxing atmosphere with discreet background music or leave an information channel on. These are details that make the difference in welcoming guests.
Overall, the staff, from the restaurant to the bar and up to the reception, seemed poorly prepared, poorly coordinated, and not adequately trained for a facility that presents itself as a four-star hotel.
The common areas also highlight poor maintenance. The walls show signs of dirt and wear, many courtesy lights along the outdoor paths were not working, while the carpets in the hallways leading to the rooms were old, stained, and visibly dirty, especially when backlit. The general impression is that of a facility slowly left to decay, lacking the care and attention one would expect.
The underground parking lots are dark, unwelcoming, and convey a feeling of poor security. There is a lack of clear signage, clearly visible parking space numbering, and adequate lighting. Access to the hotel also appears poorly controlled: a simple barrier with an attendant or a security system would make the area much safer for guests.
Ultimately, the impression is that of a facility that would need a major redevelopment, both in terms of the environments and the organization of services. There is a lack of attention to detail, maintenance, professionalism, and that customer focus that should characterize a hotel of this category.
The price-quality ratio is, in our judgment, disappointing. From a four-star rated hotel, one expects much more in terms of comfort, quality of services, and staff professionalism. Unfortunately, our experience was negative in many respects and, for this reason, we do not feel we can recommend this property."
