"We recently stayed at TUI Sensatori Atlantica Dreams in August and, while there were some positives, overall the experience didn’t meet the standard we expected from a 5‑star hotel.
Room & Comfort
Our first night was extremely uncomfortable as the air conditioning wasn’t working. We only managed around two hours of sleep, with my husband sitting outside at 3am because it was cooler, and one of our children became unwell due to the heat. Although maintenance fixed the issue the following day, there was no gesture of apology, which felt disappointing given the impact on our first night.
The room itself was spacious, clean, and had lovely views. Housekeeping kept everything tidy with fresh towels daily. However, the fridge was only restocked once during our stay despite us leaving a note and asking for non‑alcoholic beer and Diet Pepsi. Instead, we were given more wine and beer. For a 5‑star hotel, this felt below standard.
Food & Drink
Food quality was very hit‑and‑miss.
Breakfast: Generally good, with back bacon available, but green bananas, unripe melon, and greasy omelettes made with too much oil let it down. One morning there was no fruit for quite some time.
Lunch: A nice range of salads, meats, and freshly made pizzas. Probably the most consistent meal of the day.
Dinner: Buffet dinners were ok, but we often struggled to find healthier options. The rice, risottos, and orzos were usually the best choices, though my risotto only had one prawn in it. There was a heavy reliance on chicken thigh, which isn’t a premium cut, and chicken fillet dishes ran out quickly.
A la carte:
• The Italian restaurant was very poor — our food wasn’t checked on at all, and we ended up leaving and returning to the buffet.
• The burger restaurant was underwhelming: cold chips, overcooked chicken parmigiana, and a chicken burger made with thigh meat. Again, no one checked on our meal while we were eating.
• Asian night was disappointing, with barely filled spring rolls and Bao buns lacking filling.
Desserts, however, were consistently lovely.
Bars & Drinks Service
Service around the pools was inconsistent.
• At times only one person was serving at the pool bar.
• For the first few days, no one took drinks orders around the pool.
• Iced coffees were poor, and some cocktails felt like minimum effort.
• Only the main Melodia bar offered non‑alcoholic beer, which was frustrating as we don’t drink alcohol and didn’t want sugary drinks. A 5‑star resort should offer more non‑alcoholic options across all bars.
One staff member — a blonde girl working around the activity pool — was excellent. She kept the area spotless and regularly checked if we wanted drinks. We tipped her because she genuinely went above and beyond. In contrast, another staff member ignored me when I tried to get their attention.
Facilities
The hotel grounds were very clean, including the poolside toilets and changing areas.
Gym:
The gym was disappointing — only one of four treadmills worked, it was often too busy, and the heaviest weights were just 14kg. For a large resort, this isn’t adequate.
Pools:
We always found a sun lounger, which was great. However, the activity pool (which is shallow and ideal for younger children) was frequently used for adult games, making it difficult for families who rely on that space. The adults‑only area was far more relaxing, with much better sunbeds.
Waterpark:
The chairs here were uncomfortable bucket‑style seats that you couldn’t lie back on. The waterpark was good for the kids and kept clean and tidy.
Smoking:
Guests smoked in non‑designated areas around the hotel, which was unpleasant. Smoking should be restricted to specific zones only.
Service & Organisation
We weren’t given a map on arrival, though others were. A map in the app would be helpful.
Tables at dinner were small for four people, and one evening we were shown to a table set for three and left to sort it ourselves.
The “Poor Bar” closed early and often had only one staff member working, making it very busy.
QR codes on tables and sunbeds only showed menus — being able to order directly would be a huge improvement.
Toasters at breakfast constantly broke or were changed by guests. Investing in better ones would help.
General Experience
The hotel is clean, modern, and has some lovely areas, but the overall experience didn’t feel 5‑star. We would rate it 4‑star at best, with the food closer to a 3. We’ve stayed in several 5‑star hotels before, and this didn’t compare.
There were also many rude guests pushing in queues, which isn’t the hotel’s fault but did affect meal times.
On a positive note, the spa/indoor pool area has great shower and changing facilities — so paying for late checkout isn’t necessary.
Final Thoughts
Atlantica Dreams has potential, with beautiful rooms, clean grounds, and some standout staff. However, inconsistent food quality, patchy service, maintenance issues, and lack of attention to detail meant our stay didn’t meet the 5‑star standard advertised. With improvements to staffing, food, gym equipment, and guest experience, it could be excellent — but it’s not there yet."
