"We stayed at Zeus Kos Beach 11th - 25th July with Jet2 holidays, I do try to always be positive in reviews so I will start with that - previous reviews said Staff made this hotel, a special shout out to Abdullah, Michael, Ou, Mario and all the staff, they were amazing, our room was cleaned every day and I cannot fault the service. I know people who stayed in the hotel for the same two weeks us as had issues with food, not the selection it is a small hotel and the food itself was good, however, it was not hot. I just couldn't eat cold food that was supposed to be hot. I noted this was mentioned by someone on trip advisor on the 11th July and the manager responded they would deal with it, but alas this was not the case. The food was tepid/cold and the plates were cold (plates were always wet so had to dry them with a serviette before putting food on them), we did mention this, but food was still cold, we even asked for a meal one night to be microwaved, because we were fed up with every meal being cold, just so we could eat something hot. There were facilities to heat the plates, they were just not used. The waste was really sad, when the chefs and kitchen staff had spent all afternoon preparing and cooking the food, but at least I lost weight rather than put on, but two weeks of eating salad wasn't ideal. We did go into Mastichari a couple of times just to get hot food and variation. You can walk to Mastichari but the coastal path in one place is extremely dangerous where the path is crumbling to the beach below with an exposed electric cable. Taxi is 10 Euro's each way, the restaurants will get you a taxi back. I do wonder what we pay tax for if the local council cannot make this path safe for tourists. The hotel was desperately short staffed, Mario was running around like a headless chicken trying to help the restaurant, the bar in the evenings and manage the a' la Carte restaurant, it was frustrating having the lounge bar unattended in the evenings and had to wait a while for one of the dining staff to serve you if Mario was in the a la carte restaurant (always with a smile mind you), but because everyone was wearing many hats, it wasn't relaxing, it made you feel you didn't want to ask for a drink as it was adding to their burden or made you feel you should roll your sleeves up and help them. We noticed the pool was not cleaned everyday, there were a couple of days each week of our stay the pool didn't get cleaned, it was not nice having to pick out bits of tissue from the bottom of the pool because you kept treading on them. We ventured to the beach for a walk not swim, but there were days it was very windy and the sea was rough. George is guarding the pool (very well I might add), but there is no lifeguard for the beach, so we didn't feel confident venturing for a swim. The walk to the beach involves negotiating a steep concreted hill, but having to walk back up the hill to get a drink and then go back down again and so on was not great, so it deterred us from going to the beach other than for a walk, we stayed by the pool. The hotel has a restaurant/bar on the next level down (a la carte in the evenings), why on earth not open that up during the day for day time snacks and drinks for those on the beach or sunbeds on the level down? rather than having sandwiches on the counter of the pool bar which got hot, dried up and were frankly unappealing after an hour, why not have a fridge outside the bar and keep them there with plastic lids rather than clingfilm? open the a la carte during the day and do hot snacks or sandwiches. There were kids at the hotel, but the choice of kids menu was non existent, we did notice families were ordering Pizza deliveries from Mastichari and eating them out the front of the hotel, which for an all exclusive which is not adults only, speaks for itself. This hotel is out in the middle of nowhere, but for us not a problem, we just wanted a chill holiday, you can hire cars to venture out of the hotel. The town of Mastichari is small but has a good selection of restaurants. We were there for 2 weeks, by 10 days we were ready to come home, which is a shame, the hotel has so much going for it if only the new owners would invest in more staff, open the a la carte during the day for pizza's/sandwiches/pasta and drinks. The food issues, the staffing issues and cleanliness of the pool, we do not think this is a 5* hotel although I have seen it advertised as 4* as well, to us this is more 3*plus, but with a bit of love and investment, this hotel could be an absolute gem, just keep the staff you have and get more, sort out the food issues, make the beach more user friendly by having a life guard (kids are mainly at the beach rather than the pool so it is essential for safety). I would say 7 days would've been enough for us and the niggles that developed and spoilt things for us, would have not been so bad. If guests are staying for 2 weeks, the a la carte should be available for those guests twice during their stay, only being allowed to eat there once was unusual, at least that food was hot and lovely."
