"We stayed one week in this apartment hotel in Kos and unfortunately our experience has been very disappointing. In terms of hygiene, maintenance, and service, we found the accommodation far below standard.
Upon arrival, we found a room that in our opinion was very poorly maintained. In the bathroom, clearly visible dark stains and dirt were present around the grout, the frame, and various edges. We took photos of this. The photos show in our opinion that the bathroom was insufficiently maintained.
Also during our stay we hardly saw any cleaning. During the entire week we stayed here, the floor was not mopped once in our view and the bathroom was not visibly cleaned. The bed was made, but that's largely where it stayed according to our experience.
Obtaining clean towels was also difficult. Towels were mostly neatly folded, but we found the general hygiene of the room and bathroom insufficient.
Additionally, there was a serious problem with the sanitary facilities. When flushing the toilet, a clear and strong sewage smell came up. We found that particularly unpleasant.
Furthermore, the door of our room did not work well. The door only opened partially and did not close properly onto the floor. During our stay, large spiders and even salamanders came into our room. This naturally did not create a pleasant feeling.
During our stay, my husband was also bitten by an insect. He woke up in the morning with a large, noticeable lump on his arm, which remained visible throughout the rest of our vacation. We certainly cannot determine which insect this was, but in combination with the insects that entered our room, we found this very worrying.
Another big problem was the communication surrounding toilet paper. Upon arrival, it was not made clear to us that we had to provide our own toilet paper. On the second day, we fortunately got a new role from a young employee at the counter. She was subsequently confronted by her employer here, as we understood.
A few days later, around midnight, we had no toilet paper again. When we asked about it, we were told that the employee was not allowed to give us a new role. We found this particularly annoying, especially because it was not clearly communicated to us upon arrival that we had to purchase toilet paper ourselves.
When we expressed our surprise about this, we were told that there were enough supermarkets in the neighborhood. We found this reaction particularly unfriendly. We were tourists, were unfamiliar with the area, and did not find it reasonable to be confronted in the middle of the night like this with a basic facility.
Because we ultimately had to provide the toilet paper ourselves, we deliberately left a roll of toilet paper in the accommodation for the owner upon departure. We found that a suitable way to conclude the situation: if the accommodation chooses not to provide guests with enough toilet paper by default, we wanted to at least prevent the next guest from being without it in the middle of the night.
What made the situation even more unpleasant for us was the way it was subsequently handled. The next day we noticed that a female employee, who we understood to be family of the young employee at the counter, was watching us conspicuously from the bar. We consciously did not react to this because we did not want our vacation to be affected.
On our last day, my husband was still confronted by the same employee about the previous situation. We found it a shame that this issue was brought up again, when we had chosen to let it rest ourselves.
During that conversation, it was also said that many young Dutch guests are staying in the apartment hotel and that some of them allegedly abused the previous arrangement regarding toilet paper, according to the employee. We found it particularly inappropriate that Dutch guests were named and judged as a group in this way.
We tried to continue our vacation despite everything and not to have any further discussion. Unfortunately, the feeling remained with us that our complaints were not taken seriously.
Our experience is therefore very negative. We are not concerned with a luxury accommodation or minor shortcomings. We simply expect a clean room, a hygienic bathroom, well-functioning amenities, and normal, respectful treatment as a guest.
Based on our own experience, we would therefore not recommend this accommodation.
If you value good hygiene, a clean bathroom, good maintenance, and professional service during your vacation, we recommend looking closely at recent reviews before booking here.
During our stay, we took photos of the condition of the bathroom and the visible dirt. These photos can support the circumstances described above."
