"I have stayed at this hotel twice now. First in September 2024 and again in May 2026. I love this hotel.
The atmosphere of the hotel, with the movie theme, is quite nice. You can tell a lot of effort was put into the design and it makes it feel welcoming. There are elevators of course, however they are a little slow to be called. Often times i would just walk down the stairs when leaving just because it was faster. Despite being on the 5th floor. There is a gym in the basement which honestly inst worth spending time in. It feels like an afterthought. Though for someone who wants to do a little working out it is sufficient and does the job. Both stays I used the dumb bells for a few short workouts. One safety issue i noticed is the pad in the middle back of the bench is very loose and needs to be tightened.
I stayed in the same type of room both times, a Double room Superior. Both times where on the 5th floor and both were at the front of the building with balconies. I am not sure if all of the double superior rooms have balconies. But from a previous review I read i don't believe they do. I specifically emailed the hotel ahead of time and asked for a balcony room and the were able to accommodate me both times! Both windows open completely onto the balcony and there is 1 chair to sit on. It is quite great. The rooms were clean and there was enough space for me, a solo traveler to move around with ease. There is a luggage rack and a second chair which i used for another piece of luggage. The bathroom is fine and the shower is actually quite large. The soap in the shower is not the best. They only provide 1 type for hair/face/body. I would recommend bringing your own if this is something you really care about. There is a standard room safe and a mini fridge with free drinks/snacks. Unfortunately on this stay my mini fridge was not working, however I did not have the need to use it so it was not an issue. The air conditioning goes down to 66 F which is a great temperature for sleeping, although there are signs that they prefer the rooms to be kept around 71F. I did not allow hotel staff in to clean my room on either visit so i cannot speak to them. Noise level in the room was impressive considering Bd. Sebastopol is a busy street, you really cant hear anything if you are at the front of the hotel and close the windows.
One of my favorite things about this hotel is the free snacks/drinks in the lobby/dining area EVERY DAY. As well as constant coffee availability. The snacks go from 2pm(1400) to 2am/0200, I may be wrong on the exact times. There are aways various choices of baked treats and some healthier things like almonds or fruit. Also there is a microwave always available in the same area.
Every staff member i met was incredibly friendly and helpful. On my most recent trip my flight was cancelled outbound from JFK, and i was not able to re-book another flight until the following day. I ended up having to shift my leave and return dates a full day forward. The hotel completely accommodated me and did not increase the cost of my booking at all! I arrived very early, around 0700, and due to how they worked it I technically had the room the night i wasn't there. SO when i got there i had a room all ready to go, when normally it wouldn't have been available until regular check in time. This was amazing because i was able to get in and change/put my stuff down and immediately hit the streets. The only failure by the staff was forgetting to do the wakeup call i requested on the day i was flying home. It was quite early and the staff member was incredibly apologetic. He explained they do not have a system for wake up calls beyond a written note so it was easy for him to miss. Luckily, I had set multiple alarms on my watch, phone and ipad and even had a failsafe of someone back home who would call me if they didnt hear from me. Can you tell i was paranoid about missing my early flight home? heh.
Lastly I want to touch on the neighborhood. It is quite easy to navigate the city from here. It is a quick walk to Les Halles, Republique, Le Marais, even the opera. However, there are some seedier elements in the immediate area of the hotel. it almost is as if the hotel is on the very bottom of the edge of a seediness circle. There are prostitutes who work Rue Blondell and Rue Sainte-Appoline(obviously they pose no safety risk for you, just dont take their picture). Also there are some homeless meandering about, at 4am one approached me and the hotels front door guy when he was helping me to my car to go back to CDG. You will see them around, but mostly harmless. Finally, the Strasbourg-Saint Denis metro station a few blocks north does seem to attract some seedier characters. I noted one drunk guy wandering and yelling 2 days in a row. In my opinion, as a late 30s physically fit white man I was not concerned for my safety staying here. Paris is a city and these are part of what comes with a city. As with any city, be mindful of your surroundings and you will be fine. Enough negative talk about the area, because the vast majority of your surroundings will be fine. There is a FANTASTIC sandwich place maybe 50 feet south of the hotel called Barbac. The man who owns it is a genius and I had the best pastrami sandwich of my life there. Santa Lyna on the next block south is an all day brunch place and it is quite good as well. Go a little further south and you get to Partisan coffee which is the best coffee nearby and one of the better roasters in the city. I should also mention Brassiere Dubillot is on the block behind the hotel and is excellent, though a reservation is a must if you don't want to wait on a 45 minute line like i did. Pro-trip: do not be rude to them. I watch a family give them the TINIEST bit of attitude about the wait before deciding to get off the line. Within seconds the hostess sat the couple in front of me and myself, seemingly almost out of spite to the family who had just left. But honestly, you shouldn't be rude to anyone serving or helping you anywhere.
All that said, this is a great hotel with a staff who will do everything they can to make your stay better. Its a beautiful and clean hotel in a nearly perfect location."
