1K Hotel

"Be very careful with your deposit at 1K Paris. We returned from a lovely week in Paris—our first holiday without children in 20 years—only to receive an unexpected €100 charge the day after checkout. No advance warning, no discussion. Only when I questioned the payment did the hotel claim we had left permanent red stains on the carpet. We did not spill anything on the carpet. It was already dirty and marked when we arrived, and we firmly dispute responsibility for the alleged damage. Our room was also considerably more worn and tired than the hotel’s promotional photographs suggest. In our opinion, the condition and overall standard were closer to a three-star hotel than the four-star experience advertised. The hotel sent close-up photographs of a carpet that do not establish which room they were taken in, when they were taken, or whether the stains existed before our stay. We have received no evidence of the carpet’s condition before our arrival, no substantiation that the staining is permanent, and no itemised explanation for charging exactly the entire €100 deposit. Management has not responded to our formal complaint requesting a refund and supporting documentation. I have also found reviews from other guests describing similar problems with deposits, which makes this particularly concerning. €100 is not a fortune. Being charged for damage we did not cause is a matter of principle. To us, this feels like an attempt to make easy money at our expense, and it has completely soured an otherwise enjoyable holiday. Photograph the condition of your room on arrival, report every existing mark, and keep all correspondence. Do not assume your deposit will simply be returned. We would not stay here again."

"Unbelievable that the elevator was broken and we had to go up and down 4 floors with luggage, in addition to arriving tired and also having to face the stairs. Another peculiarity: bathroom without a door with the toilet facing the opening that was opposite the bed, zero privacy. They charged 2 fees at check-in instead of just the tourism fee. Good bed, good bedding but I wouldn't go back. They charged a fee twice and sent an email with only one"

"It was obvious that one of their incoming guest had mobility issues, but it wasn’t until we checked in that they told us that the elevator (yes, they only have one for guests) wasn’t working and they didn’t know when it would be back on. For the two days that we stayed there we had to walk up narrow curved stairways that was dark until you got to the top. very difficult to manage the two flights of steps. We left two days early."
