"First impressions were actually mildly encouraging. Once you can actually figure out how to get to the hotel on the CDGVAL and navigate the unclear signage it's actually quite easy. Con check-in, I was offered a welcome drink or points. But also a small but unexpected "tourist tax". I was also not asked for a deposit - which I think had implications later. I took the drink option. And was then told I had to pay EUR25 for my free drink. And I was not allowed to put it on the room bill.
I then went to their restaurant and the advertised starter buffet was in fact, a salad bar. I ordered the Special: Flank Steak cooked Medium Rare. It came RAW. The accompanying chips were also cold and soggy. The beer I ordered never came but two waitresses tried to con me into buying more.
When it came to paying the restaurant bill, once again staff refused to let me charge this to the room.
The room itself should have been comfortable - the bed was firm - fine for me but could be a bit hard for others. BUT... the air conditioning did not work and I had to leave the window wide open all night, not good in an airport hotel.
There was also a problem with the shower design. I could not adjust the height of the bracket for the handset and the bracket was fixed vertical and parallel to the wall. You could not adjust it to give it an angle so you could be under the shower head. On top of that, the flow of water was anaemic and hardly got you wet let alone being sufficient to clean you.
The staff didn't give a damn. I guess the thing is that being an airport hotel, they will get their money and have no incentive to deliver good - or even any - service.
What should have been a chance to relax and freshen up before taking a flight the next day left me more tired, stressed and dirty.
When I got home, I talked (after a 30 minute wait) to "Guest Relations" who said they could do nothing beyond pass my message. In fairness I did receive a reply from the hotel asking me for contact details - which they should have known from my reservation. I replied but have not had contact since.
I have had good experiences at other HI Express Hotels, so I KNOW they can do better than this."
