Atlantic El Tope

"My 13 year old daughter and I just spent 4 nights at the Atlantic El Tope Hotel. We were all inclusive. Weather was exceptional, better than expected. Temps between 25-30 each day. Thought I would do a review if anyone is booked to stay here. It was a really fantastic hotel, I was very impressed. ✔️ Huge newly renovated room with a massive balcony ✔️ Rooftop bar with great views and 2 hot tubs (cash only bar - not applicable for All inclusive guests) ✔️ Kids splash area and slides on Level 1 with a pool bar with pool snacks ✔️ All staff friendly ✔️ Decent sized main pool with comfy sunbeds ✔️ Nice restaurant with poolside outside seating ✔️ Pool towels to hire for free ✔️ Really nice comfy chairs in the public areas ✔️ Good location, close walk to shopping centre and town centre but we are fit and enjoyed the evening walk. ❌ Evening entertainment was terrible ❌ Food was average, not very hot and was repetitive ❌ Pool bar snacks were left on the bar unchilled- ham, cheese, fruit, pastries. Burgers, chips, nuggets, pizza, pasta were all cooked at 12 midday and left warm for th remainder of the day. Not the best food. ❌ Not great if you have poor mobility as the hotel is on a hill. "So far, the only positive to our stay is our view. We booked a Deluxe Room with Sea View and when booking, we were marketed beautiful new refurbed rooms which is why we booked this hotel over another which was slightly cheaper. When booking we understood that the hotel was undergoing renovation which is fine, but we thought it would be okay as we had booked a nice new room anyway. Upon arrival, we were greeted, told our room number and headed into the extremely small elevator. When we got to our floor, it didn’t look new but we hoped it was just because the rooms only had been renovated. Wow, we were wrong. Firstly our room is absolutely not a DELUXE room. We don’t even have a mirror in there to get ready with. The rooms only we booked should’ve had a sofa bed which we were going to use for our toddler… there wasn’t one. Everything is super unfriendly for a child. She can open the door to get out as there’s no internal lock, so we have to wedge it with our pushchair. The balcony door has no lock, so we could easily be robbed. All the cables are at child height for her to pull and mess with. The toilet feels like it’s about to fall off the wall when you sit on it and it’s all stained red. There’s mould near the latch on the balcony door. The curtain over the door has bogeys stuck to it. We have an incredibly tiny and almost pointless fridge in the room. A kettle but no supplies. The noisiest air con in the world which is either too cold or pointless. The bins have no bin bags in them which is unhygienic and the travel cot we’ve been given has a loose screw and cigarette burns on it. We would not have chosen to stay here if we had known this. I spoke to reception on arrival and was passed to what I assume is a duty manager. Who initially said “you can’t have booked those rooms as they’re not ready yet” even though we can see them occupied below our balcony. He then later said “this was the only room available and you’ll have to speak to your travel agent”. Why have rooms available to book if you’re going to overbook them? He also then condescendingly said, “it is a deluxe room, it just might not be to you”. Which, I understand the premise of but basic family friendly rooms and a mirror to get ready with should be acceptable with a Deluxe Family room, surely? Absolutely would not come here again. If you’re thinking about booking, I wouldn’t bother unless you know all the renovations have been completed and you’re going to be given the booking you’ve paid for."

"I stayed for a week and booked a Mountain View room with terrace which was well worth the extra. I went B&B and whilst there I paid extra 15 euros for dinner in the evening each night. I have food allergies and it was easy to pick out what I could eat from the buffet due to the symbols/coding above each dish, however some nights I was a bit limited as there’s a lot of shell fish in any Canarian buffet. Occupational hazard of having allergies! The room was stunning and newly renovated and very modern but comfortable and welcoming, with a lovely big terrace with sun loungers and chairs and table. The room had two comfortable beds and two chaise lounge (not sure is these fold out to be sofa beds) very pretty views from the terrace across the resort town due to the high elevation of the hotel. The shower had good pressure and temperature and the room/maid staff were amazing! changed the towels daily and made (changed when required) the beds daily and when I wasn’t in the room they also did a thorough clean. They were still finishing off renovations to the hotel while I was there and there was a bit of drilling and hammering some days, but not every day and it wasn’t all the time so I didn’t feel this affected my stay at all. I knew in advance there was still some works going on so it wasn’t a surprise and Tui had given me the option to change hotels which I declined. There is a lovely roof top bar although I didn’t use this as I just needed to recharge my batteries but it was very nice when I went to have a look. The pool outside was nice and lots of loungers around it. There is a nice chilled bar adjacent to the entrance of the hotel and this has some evening entertainment. I can’t speak to this as I didn’t attend it. I also couldn’t hear much of it from my room which was good as my room was above the bar area. The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough to help if I needed anything. So for me this hotel had it all; the location, close to the sea front but high enough to have great views and fresh air and peace and quiet, the staff, being so kind and helpful, and the food service being so good, with lots of options on the buffet menu (if slightly samey in content night to night. But I think most buffets repeat the same sorts of things so I wasn’t too disappointed with that) I highly recommend for families couples and singles looking for a chilled vibe in a great spot. It’s on a hill and I can imagine this being a problem if you have any cardiac problems but I saw people getting taxis so that’s an option. I preferred the walk. There is a supermarket at the bottom of the hill and another one a bit further towards the seafront if you want to pick up some shopping. The sea front is busy and has lots of shops of typical sea front.and bars and eateries. I will be back again at some point."
