Sol Katmandu Park and Resort

"Went here first week of August On the whole the resort is ok ALL staff polite and very helpful but a big thank you to Carmen and the bar staff Reception staff all polite and helpful as were the restaurant staff Restaurant was all very good and I personally thought the selection of food was very good apart from some negative reviews on the food We had temps of 33c plus all week and it seemed the air con on bar , lobby and restaurant was either non existent which made it uncomfortable The basis rooms are basic We shared ours with a grandchild and there is not much storage space for a 10/14 night stay. The air con works in the room but they are old systems and did not get it cool enough for me. They seem to push room upgrades and that’s what I think they want. All the facilities in the on site theme park are very good However the zombies show shares the same room as another show which results in long waits whilst they empty one show for the next ? The main pool was closed twice due to a child probably pooing in the pool despite numerous signs saying pool nappies must be worn with free nappies available . Granted this is not really the hotels fault. Our room faced onto the nearby large BCM nightclub and this is very noisey when the club empty’s The day before we left about 30/40 gypsy travellers all booked in Extremely noisey and rude in the restaurant and have no idea what a Que is for the good or the bar. Kids show at night is not as good as a zafiro or H10 resort and the later shows a bit repetitive during the stay. Hotel is in a good position with beach, bars and restaurants all nearby It’s was all just about ok but don’t think I would return in a hurry"

"First time staying at Katmandu. Great family holiday, family assisted of 3yr old, 12 yr old, 18 and 19yr olds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Check in: grand, reception staff lovely. Rooms: we had two rooms, one facing the road (standard room) and one facing the entertainment area (superior room) if you can get a room facing entertainment area. Rooms were lovely, beds very comfortable, even the chair that turned into a bed my 19yr old said she slept very well. House keeping were always about, cleaned our rooms plenty of times within one week. Gave us extra towels and toilet paper when we asked. I did smell Marijuna few nights from balcony which is not the hotels fault, this is guests who should maybe rethink to go to the main road and smoke there. There were ashtrays in the balcony so maybe hotel could remove the ashtrays this may prevent the smoking on balcony's. That’s the only time really smoke bothered me, no one smoked in the pool area and I didn’t see anyone smoke outside by the fishes. Lifts didn’t bother us, they were quick enough, there was the odd queue but we were only on the second floor. Laundry room service on first floor (4euro) and a shower room which is spotless clean on 2nd and 3rd floors if you had a later flight. Pool area: lots of Sunbeds, people did leave their towels as did we but there was always lots of Sunbeds and parasols. No food around pool which was a great idea. Also a maintenance guy around pool he would’ve helped out lifting sunbeds for people, cleaning up throughout the day. Pool opened at 10am, closed at 7pm. Food/drinks: variety of foods breakfast lunch and dinner, breakfast basically same thing every morning but what else is there to make at breakfast, fresh breads, crossitants, omelettes, all where lovely. Lunch lots of different options we sometimes preferred lunch over dinners, the steaks were lovely so was veg soup. Dinner theme different every night, we loved the Mexican night. Cheese, crackers the lot there was always something to eat, lots of desserts, chocolate cake and Oreo cake. Snack bar, was alright, my 12 yr old son liked this. Lots of drink stations, cocktails were lovely. Token system was grand, it didn’t bother us, actually thought was a good idea so people couldn’t get greedy and get drunk as have seen previously on holiday. Entertainment: The entertainment shows where grand, mini disco at 8:30 then a show at 9pm on the main stage but if you weren’t interested in the entertainment there was a singer in the lobby area which was always good. Kids club, my 3yr old loved this, also loved running across the water. There was water polo and basketball in the pool we didn’t play this but always had a good laugh watching. The entertainment staff work very very hard and long hours to keep all the children entertained, I could not fault them honestly nicest ever. Always stopped to talk too. Number of different activities to do throughout the hotel, we were never bored or had nothing to do. 12 year old loved the pool tables(2euro) and the craic in the pool. Katmandu Park: Upside Down house was brilliant, 3yr old loved this, must been in there about 16 times in one week, staff knew her by name. 3D cinema was brilliant, splash park very good, mini golf (11euro each for the week which was cheap) 12yr old lived the mini golf, football area. Katmandu gift shop reasonable priced. Face painting, popcorn, candy floss, hair braiding, at extra cost but all reasonable priced. Magaluf: spotless clean, lots of shops, restaurants. Beach was lovely and clean, we done the crazy UFO at the beach 25euro each, was such good craic, was only 15euro for the pictures and video which was sent via WhatsApp. We left hotel to go to shops to buy gifts or for a walk, we mostly stayed at hotel as weather was very hot the week we stayed. 18 and 19 year old loved the hotel and very close by to the strip for them, they felt safe in magaluf strip. Only thing I would have preferred if Katmandu Park opened a little later in the evenings so we could make use of the park as we felt our day was busy with kids club, pool activities, we wouldn’t loved to use the park later in the evening. Mini golf and Upside down house was on to 9pm but if for example the 3D cinema opened later we would’ve done this. Only regret I have is not bringing my Stanley cup to fill up. We are really considering booking for next year."

"I stayed here with friends 10 years ago and had the best time. I always said if I had kids I'd bring them one day. That's what I did and wish I hadn't. There are many great parts of the hotel, lots which my kids loved, but many issues that have made me not want to stay again. Our first issue started at check in, we arrived at 1.30am but took nearly an hour to get in our room as we had to go back down 4 times to get our room key to work, my partners still not being fixed till much later. A bonus however is your room key is in your wristband so you never have to worry about losing your key or looking yourself out. Reception has not been the best since we have been here. We had no information given to us at check in about upgrades, entertainment times or anything. However, when waiting in line for a query I had on a later day, the family in front of me had all that information given at check in. We have asked Reception different things about during our stay and multiple times that information has been incorrect, resulting in us missing activities. We went to reception to enquire about meals for our last day as we had been informed breakfast would be our last meal despite not getting a transfer till 8pm. I asked and was told reception can't deal with that, speak to guest services, the manager is in there now. I spoke to the person in there, he wasn't the manager, just a guest borrowing the office. Going back to reception, I spoke to a different member of staff who said we would have to come back to get tickets tomorrow. Whilst the entertainment team is great, and my boys loved kids club and I can't speak highly enough of how good they are with the kids, the entertainment is rather repetitive on an evening. It's essentially the same show in different costumes. Except the foam party on Friday night which my eldest especially loved, shower no, foam party yes. I do have a complaint regarding Wednesday nights entertainment. It's a fun fair themed night that you have to pay extra for to join in. We went to reception to ask if there was any alternative entertainment for the evening, they informed us the fair was it so we left for the night. Upon return, we found out there was an act on stage that the last bit of we enjoyed and we would have stayed on site if we had been given correct information. The characters coming to visit during the day and on an evening was a highlight for my kids though. Food is very repetitive, I didn't travel to another country to have a roast dinner. Dinner very much seems to be left over lunch. The whole variety mainly constitutes different fish, which if you don't like, you don't have many other options. It has your typical chips, nuggets and pasta, but is very basic. The place itself is spotlessly clean, except housekeeping didn't come to our room for 2 days. The facilities are great, the upside down house, the 4D rides, the splash park were all so much fun, and my kids had a great time. I think we went to the upside down house every day. You do have to upgrade €15 per person to go on the golf or the laser quest which we didn't do. The pools are lovely, slightly cold but appreciated in 30°C. There is a baby pool and a big pool, quite deep with the shallow end being 1.30m The room we had, despite being a family room, is rather small, with only a juliet balcony and we we couldn't warrant the amount to upgrade, but be aware, space is very limited. There seems to be many hidden expenses throughout the hotel, popcorn machines, candy floss machine, attraction upgrades, room upgrades, all inclusive upgrade. The token system for drinks is also very frustrating. Upon check in, you get a token for your drinks, you go to the bar and they give you a drink. If you lose your cup or token, the sign says a 1€ charge. This rule isn't heavily enforced, however the explanation of the token system wasn't explained at check in and I had to go and ask. It's a silly system, we started the holiday with 4 tokens and ended on nearly 30 by taking back cups other people had forgotten and getting their tokens, and a family leaving gave us their tokens. The drinks selection is pretty decent, but you have to upgrade for named brands, my partner loved unlimited sangria, and my kids loved unlimited slushies. Whilst my kids have had a great time, and as a family we have made many wonderful memories, I cannot see us booking this hotel again. I would likely visit katmandu park for the day but stay in a different hotel."
