"We have just returned from 10 days on a half board basis at the 07 Alondra and on the whole it met our expectations - but didn’t quite make the grade in one or two areas.
The hotel is clean and bright and as others have mentioned it’s in a lovely area for access to the promenade, lovely scenic walks, the beach and the town.
The things that would put us off returning probably outweigh its positives for us though. Although the dining room was very civilised and quiet with well spaced out tables we felt let down by the food itself - especially as previous reviewers have praised it. The variety was definitely lacking - pork, pork and just for a change pork! Literally eight nights out of ten the only potato option on offer was frozen chips (hence the title!) - no mash, boiled, wedges etc. at all. Also most of the dishes were done with garlic so if you’re not keen it made even choosing pasta, vegetables or fish difficult. The desserts were very mediocre, the options being plain jelly, cheap fluffy mousse put in a large bowl to dip into, the same two flavours of small squares of sugary cake every time, 'fresh' fruit (some of which had decidedly seen better days on some evenings) or the only other choice was tinned fruit. Cheap cuts of meat and all done on a very tight budget by the looks of things. Also, breakfast is only served strictly from 7.45 am so if you have an early flight or trip organised you’ll miss out. All the hotels we have been to previously allow you to at least grab a pared down snack of coffee, juice and simple biscuit, cereal or pastry from around 6 am at least - but not here.
The room was okay for what we paid but even that was a bit disappointing - not the view itself as that was more or less what we anticipated (although the trees in front actually obliterated any vistas anyway) but the balcony door was only the width of an ordinary door without any glass panel adjoining it so what view we had couldn’t be seen at all from the beds, and you had a darkly painted solid wall two foot from the bed. There was a bit of street noise but that is only to be expected when considering where the hotel is situated. You make your own choice whether you want to be 'in the thick of things' or isolated.
The room cleaning was a bit hit and miss as well. We like to think we leave things as tidy as we can for the maids, and certainly don’t expect them to pick up after us, but on some days it was done thoroughly and others it was just a quick bed make, a wipe around the sink and nothing else i.e. shower not cleaned, sopping floor mat left (this was due to the impracticality of the half glass shower screen and no door that seems to be in vogue these days - so it floods the floor unless you’re extremely careful). Bathroom floor just left with puddles of water and room floor not swept or mopped. Fairly full bin not emptied on occasion and shower gel empty. The best clean we had was on the last day when we had one night left!
We aren’t sunbathers but the sun bed baggers were out in force early on - nobody on them though. I couldn’t have sunbathed even if I’d wanted to as you’re all too crammed together in a small area - not for me anymore, peace and tranquility required at my age!!
Also please note pool towels are not available to hire so bring your own.
The final little annoyance was that on checking out we were asked to pay for drinks we hadn’t had! I’d like to think it was a genuine mistake, but… Fortunately we’re early birds and had time to sort it out and the receptionist very kindly took my word that we hadn’t purchased any drinks in the hotel during the whole stay. There really needs to be some system in place to verify room numbers when ordering drinks in the restaurant.
The resort is lovely and we would return but probably to a different hotel - unless we got a really good deal. If you’ve already booked please don’t let my honesty worry you… it’s fine generally speaking. Perhaps our judgement was a bit clouded by the lovely 4* hotel we had been to near Palma only two weeks previously."
