Sol de Alcudia Apartments

"We’ve just returned from a week at the Sol de Alcudia apartments and overall we had a lovely time, but there is room for improvement. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment on the first floor, overlooking the pool. The room was one of a handful to have an extended balcony, with room for a table, 3 chairs and 2 sun loungers which was a lovely surprise. The room was nice and a good size, but could have done with a mirror in the bedroom and/or a plug near the mirror in the hallway. The only place with a plug next to a mirror was in the bathroom, which is tricky when 4 of you are trying to shower and get ready. Sleeping arrangements were fairly standard for a one bedroom apartment, with the kids on the sofa and a pull out bed underneath. The kitchen had everything we needed as we tend to make lunch in the room and go out for a meal in the evening, but it would be hard to properly self cater - again, fairly standard for a one bedroom apartment in a hotel. Unfortunately the shower spray overshot the shower screen and so every time we showered we had a very wet bathroom floor and had to put all of our hand towels down to mop it up. We stayed bed and breakfast and thought the quality of the breakfast was really good. Lots of choice all freshly cooked. There is a small, but basic gym at the hotel, a few cardio machines, a double cable machine, some dumbbells up to 12.5kg and a few kettle bells, there’s no air con, so it gets a bit hot in there. The pool was lovely, quite warm and not too deep. It got a bit busy at times, but not so much that it was unenjoyable. The sunbeds are really packed in around the pool with very little space between them - if the people in front of you put their umbrella up, you’re in the shade. Lots of the sunbeds were in the shade a lot of the day as well. Doors to the pool didn’t open until 8:30 and a few people hung around at that time to get the best beds, but most days there were beds still available at 10:30/11am. We were told at check in you can’t reserve beds and there are signs up around the pool saying the same. The lifeguard arrives around 10am and does a walk about to check if beds have been reserved. I saw him take towels off a few a couple of times. At first glance the hotel looks well maintained, but cleanliness and attention to detail is definitely the area with the biggest opportunity to improve. We found the pool had lots of leaves in it, particularly in one corner and could have done with being cleaned more regularly. The whole pool area needed a good hose and sweep down. There were a few areas that were a bit sludgy - couldn’t tell if it was sand or soil that had washed down from the flower beds, but it was a bit slippy when wet and dirty when dry. The biggest disappointment was the room cleaning. It was inconsistent at best, with the bedroom beds being made some days but not others and the kids beds not being touched at all. The bedroom and living room were swept most days, but I don’t think the bathroom was touched the whole time we were there, which became an issue given the flooding shower. We we given extra hand towels at some point, but the bath towels weren’t changed at all for the whole week and we were constantly trying to ring out and dry the towels we used on the floor. The highlight for us was the entertainment team. They had 4 or 5 activities every day and something in the evening, made a huge effort with all the kids and the adults who were interested and really bought great energy. Our kids have never been one for kids clubs and occasionally join in activities, but not always. They both got involved with almost every activity, loved that the team knew their names and enjoyed getting involved. It was lovely to see. Location wise, the hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk to the beautiful beach and has lots of shops and restaurants right around the corner. It is very close to the Belle Vue strip, so feels very commercial - if you’re looking for pretty, or restaurants overlooking the water, this end of Alcúdia isn’t for you."

"From start to finish our holiday at Sol De Alcudia Apartments was fantastic. The staff are so helpful and friendly, the animation team were brilliant and food was excellent! I can't fault it and would definitely go back again."

"What a wonderful holiday made even more amazing by the staff that work so hard to make holidaymakers feel seen, heard and looked after. I know I didn't get everyone's names but they all worked so hard and went above and beyond! From arrival we had lovely food boxes as we'd arrived the early hours of the morning and it was most appreciated. The beds were so comfortable, it was the best night sleep I've ever had. Th room was gorgeous and had everything we needed for a half board holiday and there was even a kettle and toaster in the cupboard as well as a coffee machine. There was a courtesy bag of washing up liquid and sponge, which was a lovely touch. The maids did a gorgeous job of cleaning the rooms and adding little touches such as pretty folding of the blanket on our bed. Clara and Sebastian the fabulous entertainers made our holiday so special they were amazing with names and made everyone feel part of the gang we had so much laughter and fun! Maria and Paula and all the other staff worked so hard and were so kind and helpful. Maria made sure we had food and coffee before we left as we had an early flight which she didn't have to but was really thoughtful. I loved that the lifeguard didn't allow for people to reserve beds and disappear all day. He was friendly and fair and only took towels off after checking and observing for some time. I think as long as you don't take the mick you are fine we always took our off before going to lunch but there were always spare beds when we came back it worked well no stress! If you were in the pool he didn't remove towels. He said good morning every day to us. The only little note I want to add and I appreciate people do work hard is that I think to get full stars THREE things just could be improved. It wasn't cheap therefore I don't think 61 euros for tourist tax is fair (it's probably outside of your control), and to charge for safe and towel hire on top off quite a hefty price isn't fair. I understand some hotels charge for this and I know costs have to be covered but I do think this would have made it near perfect. I know I chose this place and I am so glad I did but just in case any feedback is considered I think this would have made it full stars especially to a hard working family who always respects and tips staff anyway but enough said it was brilliant and I would love to return!"
