"We stayed at Bordoy Alcudia Bay as a mother and daughter getaway and had a lovely, relaxing holiday.
The hotel itself was very clean, modern and in a great location. Our room was cleaned every day and towels were changed whenever we left them on the floor. All of the rooms appear to have a balcony, so I wouldn't pay extra for one.
The pool area was lovely, with plenty of sunbeds. They were usually all taken by around 11am, but there wasn't the usual rush at sunrise to reserve them. We actually preferred spending our days at the beach.
The beach is around an 8-minute walk away and is incredibly easy to get to. Sunbeds cost €18 for two beds and a parasol, which we happily paid most days because we loved it there. The sea was unbelievably warm – honestly warmer than we've experienced in the Caribbean or the Indian Ocean!
The beach has toilets, bars and restaurants nearby, and there are plenty of people walking along selling fruit, cocktails, massages, blankets and sunglasses. They all leave you alone if you politely say "no thank you", although someone passes every 5–10 minutes. One brilliant feature was that every parasol has its own lockable storage box underneath. It costs just a refundable €1 deposit and you get a wristband with the key. Such a fantastic idea and gave us peace of mind while swimming. Don't forget to pack a €1 coin!
The staff throughout the hotel were friendly, polite and helpful. We also visited the spa, which was excellent. Reception gave me a 10% discount voucher when I booked a massage. I had a lymphatic drainage massage which was absolutely wonderful – one of the highlights of the holiday. I'd recommend booking a few days in advance as appointments do fill up.
Beach towels are available from reception with a €10 refundable deposit.
Food was available in one form or another for most of the day. The hotel had themed evenings including Italian and Oriental nights. I'd describe the food as perfectly acceptable for a 4-star hotel. There was always something I enjoyed eating, although having stayed in several 5-star hotels previously, it didn't quite reach those standards. That said, nobody would go hungry.
The bar served great drinks. We especially enjoyed the Piña Coladas, Sex on the Beach cocktails, sangria and spirits with mixers. There was also a cocktail of the day. Water, soft drinks and coffee machines were available throughout the day, which was really convenient. The air conditioning in the rooms, reception and bar was excellent too, which we were very grateful for as temperatures reached almost 40°C during our stay. Definitely pack plenty of sun cream and aftersun!
There are lots of small supermarkets nearby where you can buy anything you've forgotten, including a particularly large SPAR on the walk down to the beach.
We booked through easyJet Holidays, so flights and transfers were included. The coach transfer took around an hour. The only slight downside was waiting around an hour for the transfer after arriving late at night, but the return transfer was perfectly on time. Palma Airport is excellent too, with lots of shops and places to eat, especially once you've gone through passport control.
We visited both Alcudia Port and Alcudia Old Town. The port was very busy, touristy and not really our sort of place. However, the Old Town was absolutely stunning. The narrow cobbled streets, ancient walls, tapas bars and boutique shops made it one of the highlights of our holiday.
On a Saturday evening we couldn't get on the local buses because they were completely full, and every taxi we tried was already taken. In the end we walked to the Old Town, which took about 30 minutes on a very flat, easy route past the Roman archaeological site, and it was actually a lovely walk. On a weekday, transport was much easier. Getting the bus back was straightforward because the Old Town is the start of the route, so the driver opens the bus there before beginning the journey. You simply tap your bank card on and off. The driving style was... enthusiastic!
We didn't really take part in the evening entertainment, but enjoyed relaxing by the pool with board games borrowed from the hotel, doing crosswords and watching the football in the bar when it was on. It was exactly the chilled atmosphere we were looking for.
On departure day, the hotel securely stored our luggage and allowed us to use the spa showers before leaving, complete with fresh towels. It made the last day so much more comfortable.
Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and would happily recommend Bordoy Alcudia Bay. The only things that stopped it being a perfect score were that the food was a little average compared to higher-end hotels, it isn't directly on the beachfront, and transport into town can be difficult on busy weekend evenings.
Overall rating: 8/10. A lovely hotel for a relaxing escape, with friendly staff, excellent facilities and one of the warmest seas we've ever swum in."
