"Overall, our stay at Hyde Ibiza was disappointing and did not meet the standard we expected for a hotel charging premium prices.
Our biggest issue was housekeeping and, more importantly, how the situation was handled by staff.
For two days in a row, our room was not cleaned within a reasonable timeframe.
On the first day, we returned to our room at around 1pm and it had still not been serviced. We contacted reception and were told we would need to wait, so we left the room again and returned later in the afternoon.
The second day was much worse. We had been at the beach from around 10am until 4pm and returned to find the room still had not been cleaned. The housekeeping trolley was directly outside our room while the room next door was being serviced, so we assumed ours would be next. We spoke to the housekeeper, who told us she would be back in approximately five minutes.
Thirty minutes later, nothing had happened, so we went to reception and were told they would contact housekeeping.
We continued waiting.
Approximately 2.5 hours later, at around 6:30pm, the room was still not cleaned. By this point, we needed to shower, rest and get ready for our evening. I asked to speak with a manager but initially could not get through to one. I was transferred to a front desk staff member who would not provide his name until I asked several times. I was then asked what time I wanted the room cleaned so they could see whether it could be arranged, despite the fact that we had already been waiting for 2.5 hours.
We then received a call saying housekeeping had tried to clean the room but somebody was inside. Yes, we were inside because at 4pm we had specifically told the housekeeper we would wait outside on the balcony while she cleaned, and she had told us she would return in five minutes.
That five minutes turned into 2.5 hours.
In the end, we actually sat in reception in our pyjamas so that our room could finally be cleaned. That should never be necessary when staying at a hotel of this price point.
What made the experience particularly disappointing was the attitude towards the issue. It felt very much like “sorry, but not really sorry,” rather than anyone taking genuine ownership of what had happened.
A manager eventually came to speak with us. When I questioned whether this was the standard expected of a hotel of this rating, I was told, “It’s not about the star rating, it’s about your experience here.”
The problem was that our experience was exactly what we were raising.
When you are paying premium prices to stay at what is marketed as a quality resort, basic housekeeping should not require repeated calls, hours of waiting and guests sitting in reception in their pyjamas just to have their room serviced.
The following day, we were told our room would be cleaned at 12pm. At 1pm it still had not been cleaned. At that stage, we simply gave up following it up. When we returned at around 5pm, it had finally been serviced.
The hotel later sent a cheap $6euro bottle of Cava to our room as compensation for the issues and took off pool food which was poor quality. While we acknowledged the gesture, sending a cheap bottle of Cava did very little to make up for the repeated inconvenience, the time lost dealing with the issue and the overall poor handling of the situation.
There were some positives. The beds are comfortable, the shower has very good water pressure, breakfast is nice, and the beach itself is beautiful and clean.
Sunbeds need to be booked and were approximately €30 for two beds and an umbrella during our stay.
Unfortunately, the pool food was another disappointment, particularly given the prices. The Caesar salad was heavily covered in pepper and was not what we would consider a traditional Caesar salad. The watermelon dish came in a very small breakfast-sized bowl and had so much dressing that the watermelon had become soggy. For the price being charged, the quality simply did not justify eating regularly at the pool.
The hotel itself is visually lovely, but the location is something to consider before booking. It is quite removed from many of Ibiza’s main areas and clubs, with many trips taking approximately 30 minutes and taxis costing around €25–€30 each way.
There is a public bus into town for approximately €2.60, as well as a hotel-organised boat service costing around €35 return, although the limited departure times may not suit everyone.
We stayed in Room 1558, a Premier Suite overlooking the pool and beach. The room is attractive, but in our opinion the layout is poorly designed and does not make the best use of the space.
The bathroom is very small, with virtually nowhere to place your own toiletries and no proper shelving. This seems particularly strange given the size of the lounge area, where some of that space could have been used to create a more functional bathroom.
The walk-in wardrobe is also quite small and realistically fits only one suitcase, meaning our second suitcase had to remain outside the wardrobe area.
There were also very limited bathroom amenities provided. When we requested additional amenities, the shower caps appeared old and the plastic actually began to disintegrate when handled unable to use.
Overall, Hyde Ibiza is a visually attractive hotel in a beautiful setting, but our stay was overshadowed by repeated housekeeping failures, poor handling of those issues, expensive food that did not match the quality, and a room design that prioritised appearance over practicality.
For the amount being charged, we expected a much higher level of service and professionalism."
