"Having given the Globales Montemar glowing reviews following our previous two stays, I regret this review will not be quite so good.
We booked the hotel in January and sent them 3 e-mails to request a choice of one of three specific blocks – sadly, there were no responses to any of them. As a Globales member, I had expected better.
We arrived at the hotel at 1015, realising that check-in isn’t until 1400 – we completed the paperwork at Reception and were able to use the bar and restaurant. However, we were unable to find out which block/room we had been allocated. At 1400 we were told our room wouldn’t be ready until 1430. Then it went to 1500, then 1530, then 1600. We eventually got our keys at 1615! It wasn’t to our requested block/room, but we were happy with the location. Whilst waiting in Reception from 1500, other couples arrived and got their keys straight away!
The Reception staff were in an utter state of confusion and appeared to have no idea what they were doing. There were a number of people who arrived at a similar time to us, also waiting for keys when we got ours. The French girl on Reception, who didn’t speak Spanish or English, only responded with a shrug when asked what was happening. One couple, on arrival 2-days later, were given keys to a room that was already occupied!!
On our previous visits there was a lovely Customer Services lady, Hanneke, who allocated rooms – and everything ran smoothly. She retired at the end of the previous season – and is sadly missed.
Our first day was effectively lost.
It would appear that there is no apparent organisation re. preparing rooms for new arrivals – the hotel doesn’t take in to account times of flight arrivals.
The rooms are basic, but we kept reminding ourselves that it is a 2* hotel. Room servicing is hit and miss and basic when done – our towels changed daily, sheets never. Others had to chase for towels. Spare toilet rolls weren’t provided so we took one from the pool toilets!
Maintenance is basic and seems to only occur when a problem is reported. Our shower head bracket was broken, but we made do (stuffed toilet paper in it to hold the shower head!!).
Food still good with plenty of variety, but it became repetitive over a week. On previous visits there were at least two theme evenings a week – that has stopped. Restaurant continues to be clean and tables cleared quickly – well done to Carlos and the team.
Also, well done to the Pool Bar staff (Raul, Adrian, Lucia + ?), and the lady at the pool snack bar – all hard workers and working long hours.
Great to see Maribel again, still a dynamo running the entertainment!
The hotel seems to be gearing itself more toward the French market, especially now they are hosting a French holiday firm, Club Jumbo, with numerous French youngsters late teens/early twenties – more like Club 18-30, with room parties and noise through the night and early morning. About 42 of them arrived at the hotel at the same time as us. A number of people complained about noise through the night. We were woken at 0500 by a loud French party on the balcony next to us.
I would suggest that the hotel is becoming unsuitable for British families and older couples. In fact, we heard a number of people, when leaving, say that they were glad to be leaving.
I consider that the Manager/Senior staff should stay in rooms (without cleaners/maintenance knowing) to see problems for themselves. Would also suggest that they, at least every couple of days, have a table near the pool bar so guests could meet them and make comments.
We heard that the hotel is under new management (unconfirmed) but it certainly seems that there are fewer cleaning staff than previously.
We’re sad that we have had to write a poor review, having previously enjoyed our stays. Would we go back – possibly, but mainly because of cost and to use it as a base to see the rest of Ibiza. We’ll be watching the reviews to decide. We realise that the hotel is a 2* ‘cheap and cheerful’, but please get on top of the issues people raise.
Management response to reviews is generally “have shared your feedback with the relevant departments for review and follow-up.” – but nothing seems to improve!"
