"We visited Kumara Serenoa from 1st–8th August - myself, my husband, our 4-year-old and our nearly 7-year-old - and we honestly had the most fantastic time. This was our first holiday abroad as a family and Kumara made it such a memorable experience.
The hotel itself is absolutely immaculate and so aesthetic, with beautiful decor throughout. We stayed in room 129, which was on the ground floor and in the perfect location for us as a family. We arrived very late at around 11pm and, when we checked in, the receptionist gave us a food bag each containing a bottle of water, a ham and cheese sandwich, a piece of cake and some fruit. After a long journey, this was such a lovely touch and very much appreciated.
There was never an issue getting a sun lounger in the morning, which was a huge bonus. The hotel also provides pool towels, so there’s no need to bring your own. You can also pay €1–€2 for a clean one if you need to change it.
Before travelling, we had read a few reviews saying the food could be repetitive, so we were a little worried. Honestly, we couldn’t disagree more! The food was absolutely incredible and delicious, with a huge variety every day. Everything was beautifully displayed and there really was something for everyone - including my fussy children, who happily lived off spaghetti bolognese and chocolate doughnuts every day! 😂
The staff were lovely and friendly, although I have to say some of the waitresses did look like they’d had enough by the end of the week! 😂 The activity staff (I’m so sorry I can’t remember their names!) were fantastic with the children and there was always something going on. We enjoyed aquagym (which was SO much fun!), pilates, bowling, bingo and colouring for the children, to name just a few. There were also occasional musicians around the pool, and during our stay we saw a fantastic guitarist and violinist.
If I had to mention one area for improvement, it would probably be the evening entertainment. There was a singer every night from around 8:30pm–10:30pm. Don’t get me wrong, the singers were brilliant and we did enjoy them, but we felt it would be nice to have a little more variety - perhaps an evening quiz, bingo, magician, or even moving the children’s mini disco to the evening. Our children absolutely loved the mini disco, but it was at around 5:30pm, which felt quite early. Our children also just enjoyed dancing to some pop music which they didn't seem to play very often.
I did get the impression that Kumara has a very chilled and relaxed vibe, which we really appreciated, but after speaking to other guests, we all agreed that a little more variety in the evening entertainment would make an already great hotel even better.
The other thing that was disappointing was the queues at the bar in the evenings. Sometimes we would be waiting nearly 10 minutes just to get a drink, and when it was busy we were occasionally only allowed to order two drinks at a time. As a family of four, this was quite frustrating, especially when there was only one member of staff serving while others were cleaning. I think having more staff on the bar during peak times, and potentially opening the upstairs bar in reception, would make a huge difference.
That said, these things absolutely did not ruin our experience. We had the best first family holiday and genuinely didn’t want to leave!
Kumara Serenoa is beautiful, the food was fantastic, the activities were great, the atmosphere was lovely and our children had an amazing time. We would absolutely love to return in the future.
Thank you, Kumara, for giving us such a special first family holiday! ❤️"
