"Just back from a week at Tindaya. Travelled as a family of three (29 ,30 and 1.5 years old).
Overall we had a really good holiday. The hotel is really stunning, with absolutely incredible views - the resort on a whole is just beautiful. However, there were some things we found really frustrating which mean that we wouldn’t return to this hotel again. BUT on the whole, a really lovely holiday.
Pros:
Room - gorgeous. Clean, modern, really big (like really big, we had a travel cot set up for us and there was still so much space with two big cases and a pram). Bathroom was lovely. Big walk in shower, huge mirror and again, nice and modern. Loved that they give you shampoo, conditioner, body wash and moisturiser as well as toothbrushes, razors ect.
Food- we were really impressed! Breakfast was good overall with everything you could want including full English (although weird sausages and sad, anaemic bacon as always in the canaries). Lunch was a smaller version of dinner was always good. You could also eat at the pool bar which was very traditional AI fare like pizzas, burger ect. Dinner was good too, loads of different meats, fish, side dishes (vegetables, chips, beans/ lentils, pasta dishes). Desserts were okay but heavily fruit based. You can serve yourself draft beer and sangria and as well as glasses of wine from chilled bottles. There’s water, fruit juices ect.
Grounds- As I said it’s beautiful and really big. Including this as a plus because it is a huge draw to the hotel but it did have its set backs for us as a family.
Pools - Massive well maintained pools. Two normal (one privilege) with slides and a splash pad too. There was also a cute little kids pool. Loads of sun loungers, we never struggled to find one. They are comfy too!
Beach - Clean and beautiful. The clearest turquoise water ever!
Cons:
Pools - This is difficult because the pools are beautiful and there’s lots of nice things to say about them BUT they were freezing for the first four days of our holiday so we couldn’t use them. Like unbareably cold I couldn’t even get in. My boyfriend and baby managed it for about two minutes before my babies lips were blue and teeth chattering. This did affect the first few days of our holiday!
Drinks - the draft beer was really good, it’s estrella and we never had a bad pint! But the cocktails are awful, they’re out a machine and just sugary weak and sad. Coffee shop was quite limited, we only went once and I love coffee so this was a bit of a shame. Wine was quite nice and drinkable. Spirits were mostly branded but a bit boring after a few days. We’ve definitely had better drinks in all inclusive.
Grounds - although big and beautiful it was such a pain with the pram. Two lifts and lots of walking to get to places. The grounds are not easy to navigate with a pram at all. This is not a hotel for anyone with mobility issues.
Bars- there is only one bar open at a time. In the day it’s the pool bar and this is only open 10am -6pm. Means if you in the hotel rather than round the pool in the day and want a drink (like in your room after a day by the pool) then you have to go all the way down to the pool bar which is two lifts and takes about 10mins total. Likewise in the evening only the main bar is open which leaves 70% of the hotel grounds completely unused and redundant in the evening.
Staffing - the hotel did feel understaffed. Often only one person on the bar, one person serving in the à la carte restaurant ect. Often empty glasses left on tables and tables weren’t quickly turned over in the buffet. More of an observation than it actually affecting the holiday but we didn’t find staff particularly friendly or personable (probably because they’re so busy!)
Reception -We waited nearly 30 mins to check in. Such a slow process after a heavy day of travelling which was really frustrating. There was almost always a queue at reception. Room wasn’t ready until 3pm which was frustrating. We were so tired and just wanted to get settled in and relax.
Niggles:
Shower - flooded out all over the bathroom after every shower no matter how quick the shower was. Annoying but it did dry by the evening so wasn’t a massive issue
Beach loungers - these aren’t included and you have to pay €15 for two for the day.
No drinks on the beach- Your not supposed to take hotel drinks on the beach. You’d have to walk up to get them from the pool bar each time anyway which would take ages!
Lifts - one was out of order until the last day of our holiday, pretty much ever gone used the lifts because there’s so much walking!
Entertainment- just a bit boring. We didn’t bother with it at all
Just for reference, there is nothing around this hotel. You can’t really walk along the beachfront. Nearest town is £25 in a taxi. There’s literally a handful of bars and restaurants in walking distance. We did go the zoo which was really good and provided lots of close up experiences with animals."
