"We have just returned from an enjoyable 10 days, for the very first time, at Riu Palace Tres Islas.
The whole hotel is immaculate and spotlessly clean (we’re puzzled by the reviews that say that the hotel is “tired”). The décor is maybe early 1990s at a guess – but all items are of a high quality and add to the charm of the hotel. If the rumours are true and if it does have a full refurbishment in the autumn, I hope that they retain some of the features for sustainability.
Our twin room on the second floor was incredibly spacious and we had so much storage space for our belongings/luggage. The beds are so beautifully comfortable, and it is a very peaceful hotel at night time. The shower over the bath is fantastic! (I’m missing it already). The view from our balcony was stunning.
From arrival to departure all the staff were welcoming, highly communicative, brilliantly helpful, informative and kind; from Reception, to the Housekeeping Team, the Portering, the Maintenance, the Grounds and Pool staff, the Restaurant/Catering, and the Bar staff. (During our whole stay we only encountered 1 abrupt male member of staff in the dining room on one occasion – who was aggressive and unreasonably out of context in his manner, for no real reason – so we just silently walked away, and went to another area to sit down – perhaps he was having a bad day).
All staff members speak, saying hello, and acknowledging guests whilst going about their day – they cannot do enough for guests.
The Buffet food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in the pool snacks area is superb, and the choice is the best we have ever experienced in any hotel. The dining areas are spacious and hotel guests negotiate each other comfortably.
We went out on 4 different days and it was very easy to order a taxi for the out journey at Reception; taxis arrive within 10 minutes and it is a short ride for 10 Euros to Correlejo town.
We were booked on an All Inclusive (AI) basis, and all the bar staff were swift and efficient in serving us. By the end of our 10 days the bar attendants even anticipated in advance what we would order! We do wonder when the bar staff ever sleep as we saw some of the team in the day time and again in the evening! So incredibly hard working, and it was great watching how they clearly all like working as a team; lots of good humour – we enjoyed just sitting at the pool bar with a coffee or glass of something watching them. They genuinely seem to enjoy their work.
The pool areas and the terraces are beautiful, and the sun beds are incredibly comfortable with padded cushions.
The daily evening entertainment is very good; ranging from singing duos, groups and dancers.
Everything you could possibly want in this hotel is provided. We loved the shopping unit facilities on the ground floor and were able to buy some useful and lovely items during our stay.
We have just 2 gripes:
1). The non-availability of sunbeds on a daily basis. We can just about get our heads around people rushing out first thing to reserve sunbeds, but it would seem that many are reserved the night before even! The same people were hogging the same sunbeds in the exact same spots on a daily basis! Many guests even sat on them, fully clothed, wrapped in towels and blankets on colder and windy days! We also observed that some of the reserved beds were not even sat on at all, or the reservee only used the bed for a very short period of the day! The Reception team were very kind and offered for us to tell them when we couldn’t locate any beds and they would sort but this made us further feel uncomfortable, and it didn’t make for a relaxing start to our day. We managed to source our own sunbeds on just 3 days in our 10; as an alternative we went out or walked the Grand Playas beach which is stunning. The management really need to sort out a better system for fairness and availability of beds. This behaviour by many guests does not make for a restful and stress-free stay.
2). Using a toilet in the evening was like a long trek in a Wetherspoons pub (a UK hospitality chain!) To walk all the way from the restaurant, the Piano Bar or terrace was one heck of a trek to the WCs beyond Reception – this is maybe something that needs careful consideration during the refurbishment.
Would we return? The jury is still out on this … I think the sunbed situation is the one thing that would deter us, which is a shame, as I had been looking for somewhere special where I would enjoy staying for my upcoming 60th birthday in early 2028."
