"We are just back from a very enjoyable weeks stay at the Playa Park Zensation.
Firstly I must say our overall impression was really good – great value for money and we will most likely be booking again!
The weather was great – low-mid 20s which suited us fine – not too much wind either!
We booked with Jet2 and flew to/from Bristol on a Monday. We had no issues at all with the new EES customs checks, maybe because the airport was quiet when we arrived.
Location:
We hadn't stayed at this hotel before although we have visited Corralejo a few times - the town itself is well worth a visit - about a 15-20 minute stroll to the centre (all on the flat). They seem to be improving the walk ways by the beaches too so we are hoping when we return to be able to easily walk to the town centre that way as an alternative.
There is a shopping centre - La Campanario within 5 mins walk of the hotel – this has a HiperDino supermarket and various shops and restaurants. There is also a lovely artisan craft market there - on a Thursday and Sunday.
Check in:
Friendly and informative staff - always a positive!
Part of check in could be done online - plenty of help if you need it and I'm guessing if you can’t do it online that wouldn't be an issue. A QR code takes you to the hotel guest website which gives loads of useful info during your stay.
There is also a hotel WhatsApp which can be used for queries - we used it a couple of times and it worked very well.
Room:
Our room was a ground floor, pool facing Superior Junior Suite in the Zensation building (3009). The room itself was large, with plenty of wardrobe space.
Beds - Mattresses comfy - we asked for extra pillows which arrived promptly.
Bathroom - good size with a walk in shower with plenty of space to put out toiletries (a rare thing in a lot of the hotels we've been to!). Bath towels a good size.
Bath robes and slippers provided which was great.
Sockets - standard and USB sockets available which we found sufficient having also brought an adaptor with us.
Noise levels - there wasn’t any unwanted noise! The evening entertainment area was very close but we didn't hear a thing and no sounds from adjacent rooms either.
Cleaning - The room (including the floor) was cleaned daily, usually before early afternoon, including a change of towels if we wanted.
Safe - the room safe was free - hooray!
AirCon – worked well and was quiet. I believe the rooms in the Zensation building are the only ones with aircon so worth thinking about if you are likely to go when it’s very hot.
Amenities - shower gel, hand wash and conditioner were provided in the bathroom and other amenities were available on request.
Mini bar - water, soft drinks and a couple of beers in the mini bar on arrival as part of our package and the waters were replenished daily without extra charge.
Room Issues:
We had a few issues in the room during our stay (leaky shower, bedside light not working and TV playing up) but reception/maintenance were great and the issues were resolved within a couple of hours of being reported. The TV was actually replaced with what seemed to be a brand new one!
Loads of channel choices on the TV btw, including British ones, not that we watched much!
Sunbeds:
We had access to the rooftop infinity pool and bar as part of our room deal – there were plenty of sunbeds available (a few more parasols would be good there), and it was quiet with fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding areas.
We used the infinity area once but for the majority of the time we were able to find sunbeds easily by the main pools. Not too much loud music/entertainment there which we liked.
No sunbed wars - yes, towels were put out early but we were always able to find beds.
Pool towels:
Available from reception - make sure you have some cash with you - the towels are available for a deposit of 10 euros each (refundable on check out) plus 'rent' of 1 euro per towel, payable each time you want the towel changed.
Food and drink:
Breakfast - Smartline buffet restaurant:
Safe to say we enjoyed our breakfasts! Plenty of fresh porridge, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, pastries, cold meats and cheese plus of course pretty much everything you might want for a full English breakfast including omelettes to order!
Dinner - Smartline buffet restaurant:
Hotel buffets are notorious for being a bit 'samey' but we found the choices available were plentiful enough to suit what we like and we were able to find something that we were happy with every evening.
We were half board plus which meant breakfast and either lunch or dinner were included.
What was also good was that soft drinks, water and local beer were 'on tap' for the lunch/dinner sessions as part of the package. That was all we needed/wanted so can’t comment on what other drinks might have been available either to order or for all inclusive packages.
One downside was cold plates which always bugs me but the food itself was, on the whole hot and dishes were replaced regularly. There was a microwave available if needed.
If you like pizza/foccacia you'll love the food here. The pizza is cooked in full view and was delicious.
Zensation - A La Carte restaurant
We were able to have dinner at this Italian themed restaurant once as part of our package.
Whilst we enjoyed what we had, I can honestly say the Smartline buffet restaurant was as good, if not better. Apart from one fish dish (swordfish), one meat dish (steak), and a small selection of pasta dishes which were prepared to order, everything else apart from the drinks was buffet style self service (starters, sides and desserts).
We can’t comment on the entertainment or the bars as we didn’t use them but all in all a lovely holiday – thanks Playa Park!"
