"Made to feel very welcome on arrival and we were accommodated for an early check-in as we arrived approximately 2 hours before the regular check-in of 3pm. All details for stay fully explained (breakfast arrangements, city tax, pool usage etc) and a member of the reception staff accompanied us to our room to tell us about the amenities.
We stayed in a family deluxe room which was an excellent size and very clean. More than big enough for a family of 3, great bathroom and comfortable beds. All the Family Deluxe rooms are located in the corners of the building and our room had 4 doors leading to Juliet balconies to take in the feel of the surrounding streets. Considering our room was on the 2nd floor, with the doors closed the street noise was very minimal so kept the room feeling relaxed and peaceful when needed. Housekeeping did a good job of tidying the room each day. Only minor criticisms of the room were that the tea and coffee making facilities weren't replenished (I'm sure this wouldn't have been an issue if we asked) and there were no plugs for the bath or sink in the bathroom. There were notices in the room with polite reminders of helping the hotel minimise it's water usage, but it seemed a bit peculiar for a room that's specifically advertised with having a bath that you have to go and ask for a plug if you wanted to have one.
Breakfast offering was more than adequate, with hot and cold options available. We mainly stuck with the cold offering of fruit, pastries and cereals which was tasty and enough for what we needed. We tried the hot options on the first morning, but found these not to be as good as cooked breakfasts in England.
The rooftop pool area was very clean and had excellent views across Barcelona. We had been pre-warned by reception staff that the pool isn't heated and we'd have to be brave to go in! It was cold but absolutely fine once you'd been swimming for a couple of minutes, helped by the fact we had warm, sunny weather! The rooftop bar was closed due to being out of season but the whole rooftop area was large and comfortable.
The location is excellent and very convenient for exploring all of Barcelona. Placa Catalunya and the top of La Rambla are both within an easy 5 minute walk, with a variety of cafes, restaurants and shops all within easy reach. Universitat metro station is on the doorstep of the hotel entrance as well as bus stops for the local TMB services. The metro is clean and reliable for travelling around. If you're staying 4 or more days and planning to explore, buy the T-Usual pass on the TMB app/website. It costs 23.80 Euros for unlimited metro, train and bus travel within 1 zone (all of central Barcelona) for 30 days and includes travel to/from the airport. It's easy and you'll get your money's worth. A little tip if you have an early or late flight, we got the Aerobus back to the airport which was very easy. It runs 24 hours a day, every 10-20 minutes (depending on time of day) from Placa Catalunya and takes you to Terminal 1 or 2 for about 8 Euros.
Overall the hotel was excellent, with nice staff and in a fantastic location. We would definitely stay here again!"
