"We have just got back from a 2 week stay at AquaViva - we were a group of 10 with 4 children between 5-14. Overall - a nice hotel where staff do work incredibly hard to make you happy but there are a few things that need to be addressed to make it a 5 start hotel. Currently it’s 4 in my opinion but then it’s very well priced so it’s a little bit of you get what you pay for.
Hotel - very clean and beautifully presented - always someone on reception to help with anything. However - they want you to pay via QR code for anything charged to your room, this was a massive faf using rubbish wifi.
Rooms - yep, they are great, spacious, clean and have everything you need. The mini fridge isn’t free so we asked them to empty it to remove temptation. I have never stayed in a 5 start hotel where your mini free is charged before. We took our fire stick so we could watch English TV too.
Restaurants - this for us was the worst part unfortunately. The main restaurant is chaos and so totally overwhelming. We are a family that enjoy meals together, not everyone bracing themselves to try and get through the crowds to get some food and sitting at different times. It was the Easter hols, so maybe that made it worse but this made us dread meal times so much that we skipped breakfast everyday and tried various times at night to try and beat the crowds. Turns out you need to be there as it opens at 6pm of you want a nice meal with your family.
The a le carte - we tried Paprika. This was amazing. So calm and relaxing and it felt lovely to be waited on after a week in the big buffet restaurant. Staff were amazing with fussy eaters. It was just lovely. We tried to book again and pay (you only get one visit per stay despite being there 2 weeks) but the booking system is absolutely shocking and there were no spaces left at any of the 7 restaurants. I did mention this to guest relations - they very kindly got us another free sitting at the Egyptian restaurant. This place is massively underrated as it was incredible food and service - this really made our last night very enjoyable.
The pools are heated which is amazing - they are the perfect temp for a lovely refreshing dip. Kids were in there all day. There are staff bringing you drinks too which is greatly appreciated so you don’t have to leave your subbed. You do get unwanted visits from the spa sales, trips sales, hair and nails sales, etc etc throughout the day.
Entertainment - the day time, there is lots going on, water polo, botcha, volleyball etc. there are big boards by snack bars to tell you what’s going on each day. There is a good size animation team who come from various places which is nice. They work long days and do try to get to know you (some more than others). A big shout out to Harry, David and Len who made a very special effort with our group for our whole stay. The evening time was OK - I’m not a big fan of anything too heavy in the evening anyway but I know from speaking to others families that they felt it was a bit boring. Depends what you like I guess. The fire show was excellent and I always like the singers in the lobby bar area rather than the kids dock area. The pink and white parties are great fun too.
The local area is deserted - luckily you have the great water park here which was big hit with our group. The beach is lovely too and great for snorkelling. The bus can be busy though. We went on a boat to orange bay too. We used Falcon and paid around £500 for a private boat with snorkelling stops and lunch. Honestly it was incredible - best day ever. However they then asked us for over £250 for photos they had taken of us through the day and made us sit and write a Facebook review there and then. I felt we should have been told how much photos cost and the tour guide watching over you and making you write a positive review is a bit much really. I would have written a positive review anyway as it was a fantastic day. Regardless - I would recommend a boat trip for sure.
The only other thing about the hotel is the cost of Laundry - they charge roughly $3-4 per item which soon adds up. I think by the bag or by weight would be better.
This was our first time in Egypt and we had a lovely holiday, made some great memories and the hotel has so many good qualities. The children were all devastated to leave. I would recommend this hotel if you find a particularly good deal otherwise I would say if it is 5 star you really want then you might need to look at others."
